Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Mix with semi synth oil, bad for car?

Yesterday I found my 2010 passat118 tsi ( petrol)is consuming too much engine oil, 4 weeks (1k km)it consumed about 1.5L, the oil level is below minimum, so I put 1.5L valvoline dura blend semi synthetic 15w-50 in the engine. I went to the dealer and booked a service in 2weeks time, the dealer told it is okay to drive and it is not going to damage the engine ,but I'm not convinced, because they are too busy to change the oil for me. Does anyone know if the semi-synthetic oil is going to damage my engine? I am really worried...

It won't kill your engine mate. What would be worse is not putting anything in it.

    Sleep easy.

Sad to hear that your 118TSI is drinking.

          ^ +1

It would be nice to buy some 504/507 oil from the dealer when you service the car just in case it still has a drinking problem.

just don't put cooking oil or 2 stroke oil in it like someone on another internet car forum once did......

118tsi stir fry doesn't sound appealing.
