Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    1998 1.6 Polo - which oil ?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hello people,

thought that it would be time to do an oilchange on my car as the last one lies over a year back now. Hence, I sort of wanted to hear around whether you have any suggestions as to what oil I should use as I am slightly unsure after having owned a Diesel over the last 7 years. I have rather little knowledge as to how often this has to be done but my feeling is that the car has done roughly 7.000k's since the last change.

I am located in the North Ryde area. How much would you blokes on here estimate for the change and oilfilter ? I just want to make sure I put the right thing in as the car is not that popular here and the garagist may not know.

All suggestions are very much appreciated and welcome.

    Cheers in advance.

          misread your message

actually no mate, that's why I was posting this thread. I misread your message at the time thinking that you were asking me if the car has manual transmission !

          Sorry for the confusion !
