Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • WA Shell V Power

    Guys,

Has anyone in Perth run a tank of V Power 98 fuel from Shell (Coles Express if you prefer) since it launched over here recently -
    thoughts vs BP Ultimate 98?

Asking about WA specifically cos who knows if we actually get the same fuel as our east coast brothers and sisters...allegedly Caltex 98 is the same fuel as BP Ultimate over here anyway!?!

    not necessarily Geoff,

BP is the only refiner in WA, so originally, other fuels were just rebadged BP fuel. they dont transport fuel from the east to here.

however, these days a lot of fuel is imported from Singapore, especially now that shipping is less restrictive and the AUD is stronger.

So you might be getting genuine Shell V power from a Shell garage. the only question is, how much of the higher octane components have evaporated off during transport and handling?

I only ever use BP Ultimate, so cant actually offer you a comparo

I see from fuelwatch that on the same day, in the same suburb, prices vary from 148.9 for Caltex 98 to 155.9 for BP 98
