Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Headlight starting to go cloudy :( what to do? (melbourne)

    Hi everyone,

My Right hand headlight on my Golf 5 has just started to go a bit foggy/cloudy (cloudy white), I am not sure what has happened, my friend suspects chemicals used in cleaning but I am not sure.

I have read up a lot about headlight restoration but it seems far too advanced for me, and I am scared I will make it worse.

Could anyone suggest some ideas as to the best way to have this fixed?

Could you recommend anyone, or a noob friendly guide?

I didn't want to attempt headlight restoration either, my MKV lenses were microscratched and a bit cloudy, so I used this dude. Was $40 at the time but it looks like the price has gone up. Still, it took an hour and I highly recommend him.

I've had people comment on how great my lenses look and how much brighter the output is. Martin's an agricultural engineer by day and does car detailing and headlights on the weekends. Great bloke.

Ive had a lot of success with Meg's Plasti-x

      Tutorial Video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqZNVRoyVF0

      Product - Meguiar's Plast-X Polish - 296mL - Supercheap Auto Australia

My advise is take your time - let the headlight cool off between passes.
Mask off your bumpers and bonnet.
