dealing with brakedust

Hi folks

Currently looking for some options on how to best deal with the brake dust thats constantly on my wheels.

Currently mine are coated, and i DO NOT want to be using Bowens Wheely clean, Sonax etc constantly.. the stuff is great but simply too expensive.

Looking for a cheaper alternative thats not going to strip the wheels bare.

Any suggestions?

Used to used Mr Sheen on clean wheels which made them really easy to wash clean. Re-apply and repeat!

Just use ATE Ceramic pads and the black dust problem is gone.

live with it untill you need new pads then change to a low dust pad? haha

I have EBC redstuff on the front of my allroad, and oem pads on the rear, and the rears get really dirty after about 200km with no noticable dust on the fronts until about 1000km.

As the others have said, it's easiest to stop the dust in the first place by fitting low dust pads.

Failing that, you need to clean, clay bar & seal the inside & outside of the rims & fastidiously clean them every week & re-apply sealant every 3 months.

Or get the rims painted or powder coated in a graphite grey so tha the dust isn't as noticeable.

I follow a three step method to keep my wheels relatively clean.

Coat the wheels with Armorall wheel protectant
clean with a mild detergent like Preen
use a low dust brake pad (one of those ceramic formulations)

Low dust pads + clean wheels thoroughly, clay bar, then coat with gyeon rims.

Bowden's Wheely clean is the only one I would use and if you are cleaning your car ever week you only have to use it every second week otherwise you can use Bowdens agent orange in between and pressure washer. Call me biased as I sell the stuff but its great to support an Australian business. Dan and the guys are great.
