  • Cabin Floor Tear - Recommendations for a repairer (Melbourne)

    Hi guys/girls,

I've had a tear on the left join corner of my drivers side cabin floor on my R36 for quite some time now. Searched high and low on this forum and others if anyone else has had the same issues and found nothing so guessing its not a regular occurrence. Finally had enough of looking at it so in the process of trying to find a place in Melbourne that could repair it.

I'll need to call Swann Insurance to see if its covered in the extended warranty under the following statement:

interior trim components, including (but not limited to) seats and seat mechanisms, set belts, carpets etc
So firstly I'd like to ask if this has happened to anyone else with a VW (any model really)? And secondly if so, could anyone please point me in the right direction of a reputable repairer that may be able to assist?

Attached two pics to give you a rough idea of what it looks like. They're old too btw, so its a bit worse now

Thanks guys, any assistance is appreciated

In Sydney I could put you onto a few places. Melbourne, I have no idea.

Google is your friend - "moulded car carpet"

I tried searching "car carpet specialists" and didn't find much to be honest before I created this thread. Contacted one place that looked what I was after and they didn't repair, only fitted new. Was also trying to see if this was a common issue with the car as I've never seen it or heard of it happening before

I'll try "moulded" and see what I can find.
            Thanks

I doubt you'll get a repair. The best solution would be a custom floor mat that goes up the side of the tunnel.

What does VW say about it?

I havent spoken to VW directly about it as yet. I presume they wouldn't do anything as the car is out of their new car & dealer warranty

I do have the 3 year extended warranty though which was mentioned in my first post

You also have statutory warranty rights. eg: if an item wears or brakes before a reasonable person would expect it to.

If the damage was up near the footrest then it's probably normal wear but I can't see why it would break where it has. It's always worth having a chat, the worst they can do is say no.

Probably classed as wear and tear What sort of shoes do you normally wear and by the look of it your foot rubs there.
Go to a car trimmer and see if he has some of the material Must be someone in the Yellow pages.

My wife does most of the driving these days. I've mentioned it to her since I noticed it (close to 2 years now) and she knows quite well to try and avoid it.
Thanks for the suggestions guys btw

You've had it for 2 years? Probably missed the boat with any warranty claim.

Yeh that was my initial thought about it also hence why I mentioned the extract from the extended warranty

I've emailed the dealer about it and see what they say. Not holding my breath about it so if that fails I need to call Swann insurance to so what the go is
