should you wax a new car?

hi, i just bought my polo last week brand new

and i've heard i should wax it to keep the pain looking brand new and shiny

so i did some googling and came back with mixed review,

some saying to wax it

and some saying not to wax it

i am totally confused and am not sure if i should wax my new car or not?

My honest opinion, look at a stage 1 polish / cut and have optimum applied to the car for around $625 then have the vehicle inspected / washed each year by the approved detailer

I took this photo 3 weeks before my car was sold, still had a great amount of gloss / protection after having opticoat on the car for over 3 years! (provided the vehicle has a yearly wash / inspection as per the terms of the warranty)

That eBay article you have quoted is one of the most biased and misleading pieces of detailing information I have ever read!
All my new cars get a similar treatment as soon as I get them; thorough paint cleanse, correction (if needed), sealant and/or wax.

Should have done it already.

From what I recall, it's only a re-spray where you need to wait a while (for out-gassing?), as the average panel beater doesn't have the equipment to heat/dry fresh paint as thoroughly and quickly as the factory robots.

Wax or get it protected. It stops pollution chemicals eating the paint and provides a sunscreen.

Definately YES! Keep in mind that most people use the terms Wax & Polish to mean the same thing when they aren't. So wax yes, polish no.

Don't wax it only last a couple of months. Use a proper synthetic paint protection product like Nanolex https://www.carcareproducts.com.au/p...a_–_complete
I use this on my cars with very good results, this same website has instructional videos which are very good if you are unsure. The steps I follow are:

- wash car (two bucket method)
Put car under cover - cool spot
- clay bar the car (easier than it sounds and even with a new car you would not believe the crap that still comes off)
- wash car again (two bucket method)
- apply Nanolex as per instructions, if you use the Ultra it's really easy wipe on wipe off no buffing for hours like wax
- don't use the car for a few hours (I usually wait until the next morning until I get it out of the garage again)
- this stuff lasts a long time - do not wax the car, wax contains abrasives and will remove the paint protection

There is another Nanolex product that is a spray on easy top up polish, if you are keen you could use that after 6 months.

This whole process takes me less than 5 hours for my Touareg

I know it's not the detailing thread but after claying a new car you will need to lightly polish to remove the micro marring it does. The clay bar, with lube, is after all a mild abrasive. To seal before locks in imperfections. I found this from my own experience. YMMV.

The best thing you can do is, unless you have the skills, get a professional detailer to polish and protect your car, then you can maintain it from there.

It's very rare for a new car's paint to be undamaged in transit or pre delivery, its been moved around by countless people, crammed into a ship and/or a train, then delivery prep, where it will have any protective film removed then quickly washed usually with poor technique. Due the huge volume they have to get through in a day a full detail is not possible.

Hey Hoodie, thanks for your information man, but Wax doesn't contain abrasives by definition. Polishes contain abrasives.

If wax is taking you ages to buff on and buff off then you're probably doing it wrong..!

Small amount goes a long way. And just because it wears off doesn't mean it is crap. Wax has always been a sacrificial product.

Most boutique waxes, naviwax, swissvax, dodo juice, autobrite, zymol etc all last approx 2-3 months on a daily driver under aussie conditions.

BUT, always remember as Tom said.. a little goes a long way, and of course preparation of the surface will depict how long your wax lasts of course.

Hoodie covered it very well, regardless what product you use make sure you decontaminate your surface before applying. Or option b get someone else to do it for you lol

A wax with a high carnuaba content will be lucky to last 2-4 weeks man. Are you a detailer, fuzion?

If you worked in conjunction with big name companies like Swissvax & Dodo Juice everyday like Fuzion then i think you'd know what your talking about too.
