Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Freeway is killing my paint !

Have recently moved house, which now requires me to travel on a major freeway every day, lots of trucks

I have noticed quite a few small paint chips all over my bonnet, and more worryingly, on my windscreen

I dont really want to use a black car-bra, as they are quite ugly

My friend did mention a clear cover\sticker, similar to ones race cars use, so stop the small chips everywhere

However im not sure what to do about the windscreen, its only been a month and ive got so many on my new Golf R

I had this same issue, as far as the window goes, I figured I would wait to it got bad enough and do the excess free windscreen claim on insurance, for paint I had this installed and it saved a lot of chips.

Product information for Scotchgardâ„¢ Paint Protection Film

thanks for that, it seems to be exactly what i need

next question: where to i get some, and who can install it for me ?

nevermind, think i answered my own question:

Where to Buy VentureShieldâ„¢ and Scotchgardâ„¢ Paint Protection Film

ill give some of the companies a call, see how much they quote me

      update:

gave these guys a call and had a good 20 minute chat about the product

they seem very knowledgeable about the product, have been doing it for a while and do quite a few repeat customer high end cars

a little bit pricey, but i think it will be worth it, as ive copped quite a few stone chips, and this is only in a months worth of driving !

Maybe a vinyl wrap would help?
