Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Sunday Detailing Session!!!

Why oh why do I always start these jobs when I'm hung over.........

    Subject: 1989 BMW 320i convertible

Wash: Meguiars soft wash (pink looking one)
Claybar: Bowden's Own + Bowden's own detailer spray
    Cutting compound: Meguiars ultimate compound
    Wax: Meguiars ultimate liquid wax
Cloths: Foam applicators, Micro fibre cloths
    Shampoo: Auto Glym

    So the story goes.........

My partners' sister has just bought a golf and time has come to sell the BMW, I was quizzed to where would be a good place to take the BMW for a clean before going off to market. I suggested a few places also gave an indication of prices and the next thing you know, I am dobbing myself to look after the old girl. The car has always been mechanically well looked after but suffered from living a life on the streets of carlton with no protection. The paint was badly oxidised, many light and deep scratches random marks etc.

Here are a few before pics

Going around the car I quickly realised I had my work cut for me. The car also had many round marks all over it looked like bottles had been left on it at some stage. The Photo below highlites the the state of the paint and oxidation.

After a good wash, out came the claybar and I got to work, I was amazed how much crap and dirt was coming off, quite satisfying!!!!!!! 3 hours later misson complete well the clay side of things, I also found the clay works fantastically on chrome bumpers.

Righto time to start cutting, the ultimate compound is very easy to use on a form applicator and made light work of random marks and light scratches. I worked a small area with the cutting compound then followed quickly with a micro fibre cloth. 2 hours after that car was ready for polishing and waxing, at this point i was wondering why I decided to do it all by hand today!!!

Check out the bumper after the clay bar and plastics refreshed

    Righto the interior......

Many stains random marks and so forth, would of loved to removed the seats and shampooed the carpet properly but the body took so long I was running out of time and patiences

here are some before and after pics of the interior
