Anyone with experience removing window tints without damaging the rear heating elements? Well I'm selling my car, and my tints for the back window is not street legal, fearing it will not pass RWC.

Tips or tricks for home DIY, or rather anyone know what the damage is to get a professional to get it out?

I had this exactly done a few day ago. I had quite a 'situation', also not legal. Talked tint professor down to $60 from $100 or 120 maybe.

I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. They use a special steaming gun setup to remove it with damaging the dimister.

      RE: Removing Window Tints

You don't need to remove it. If you have two side mirrors, the car is legal if the front door tint is legal. I have a Daimler with very dark tint(darker than black?) on the rear windows but legal tint on the front doors, no problem. Many vehicles run this way legally. Limos, ambulances, utes, panel van, trucks.

black tint on the back window is no different to having curtains or a piece of plywood or signwriting. You just need legal front drivers/passengers windows & wing mirrors

Every car I've owned has been legal tint on front windows and darker on back. My tinter is sure this is legal, and I've never had an issue with it

If you do get it removed make sure you take it to someone who has the right tools and knows what they're doing.

I've had the experience where someone has taken off tint with a knife and scratched up the glass.

Result being a new rear window was required.... $1000 later Ouch!
