  • Carbon buildup on exhaust tips

Any tips (no pun intended!) for removing the buildup of Carbon particulate from the exhaust tips? I have a GTI but the exhaust is now black as opposed to the silver they were when I took delivery. I've tried scrubbing with normal car wash solution when I wash the car and tried spraying brake dust remover from Armorall on there but that didn't work at all.

Try using fine steel wool ,that's what I use and it wont scratch the chrome.

Okay cool, I'll give it a shot. Do you do it dry or whilst washing the car?

Use it dry recomended is 0000 grade steel wool. Polish with autosol or metal polish. Can also apply A sealant to help with cleaning next time

I use Mothers Chrome polish. Wipe on, wipe off. Looks great. Too easy!

Best tip is to not let them get to bad in the first place - my R is coming up to it's second birthday and I reckon the tips still look like new.
