Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Wolf's Nano Wheel "Clean & Coat" vs. Decon Gel Brake Duster

I drive an MK4 and recently I plastidipped my rims white. The surface of the rims are now grainy, and removing brake dust has become really difficult.

My question is, which of these products would be better suited to cleaning my wheels? The Decon Gel sounds like it's what I need to get rid of the brake dust that's building up on my rims, but I like the idea of the protective coating that the Wheel Clean & Coat product provides.

Does the Clean & Coat stuff dissolve brake dust the same way the Decon Gel does? Are these products safe to use on PlastiDip?

To be honest we haven't tried at all! A customer i know uses decon gel on his plastidipped wheels and has no issue but i wouldn't want to say its safe or unsafe until we personally try it ourselves!

Does the Clean & Coat stuff break down the brake dust the same way as the Decon Gel?

Decon gel works wonders on brake dust. Doesn't harm the cheapie wax I put on my wheels either.

Can't say about plasti-dip though, sorry.

My friend has used them on his evo that has plastidipped wheels and no issue at all for last couple months.

Clean and Coat is more of a protectant so it would be hard to say how it would react to a porous plastic coating/surface.
