Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Bugs everywhere!

    Hey,
Just started our Xmas roadtrip. We drove from Sydney to Mildura today and the bugs are out cos its damn hot over here.

So bugs splattered everywhere and still two weeks to go. Any tips for getting the bloody things off each night please? I'm not going near any mechanical car washes thats for sure!

    Cheers
    Steve

You should go to the self serve car washes - they've got them in every small town around that area, I suspect for this exact reason. I know because we drove from Sydney to Adelaide last year around this same time and there were bugs, locusts in particular, everywhere - disgusting (I would wash the car about 5 times a day for the 2 days it took us to get there)...

The Duragloss Bug Remover has to be on my top least other than the 1Z Insekt Remover.

Both are non acidic, both will not remove any wax/sealant from your car. Use is regularly when i do interstate driving etc.

Wash them off before they dry out & set. If your staying at a hotel, use the waste paper basket as a bucket.

Dad used to spray the front of his car with Mr.Sheen before travelling (just spray it on, don't bother wiping off).

My old boss used to spray the front of his car with WD40 - but he also used to spray it on his arthritic knees so he was kind of addicted to the stuff.

actually WD40 might not be a bad idea - get em off once, spray it on for the rest of the trip, and then worry about a proper detail / cleanse / isopropyl alcohol wipedown / re-seal when you get back to sydney...

            food for thought...
