  • 3M Ventureshield Question

I have a question in regards to 3M Ventureshield, of which I have fitted to the bonnet of my 9N3 Polo GTI

It is an excellent product in regards to stone protection but sometimes when its left in the open i get a

saplike substance on my car. Its easy enough to wipe off from the car but on the bonnet with Ventureshield

It leaves some kind of residue that can only be seen if underneath white light like the lights in your garage.

how can you get the mark off? Also can you put a sealant on Ventureshield? I know if you put carnuba wax on

Ventureshield it can go yellow. Any help is appreciated

I have ventureshield on my car.

With regards to sealant i have used Nanolex Paint Sealant as well a Dodo Juice Wax, both with no issues at all. I do know however that you have to be careful with tinted wax's as it can discolour the film, my car is a dark colour so i don't think it's quite such an issue. Also do not use any abrasive polish's as that will scratch the film.

As for the residue, i do sometimes get some from the little brown spots, which i assume is fly crap or something, but they tend to disappear after a couple of days in the sun.

      Thanks prodigy
So do you get the residue too?
Do you put the sealant on after cleaning the car then the polish?

I do get residue sometimes left as i mentioned when something has landed on the car like tree sap or fly crap that i'm not quick to get off before it bakes on, but are you saying you are getting residue just appearing?

The Nonolex sealant i've only applied the once so far as it last's for up to a year (about due now for a re-application come to think of it) but i apply the wax every couple of months. I also use Dodo Juice Red Mist detailer after every wash which gives yet another bit of protection plus i find it makes anything that lands on the paintwork/ventureshield a bit easier to remove.

From what you are saying some substance etched the PPF, this could be tree sap or even tap water left on your car when you washed the car, water evaporates and minerals will leave deposits on the film.
If the deposits are from tap water, you can use vinegar to dissolve the minerals. If the PPF is etched there in not much what you can do, you can’t buff the film, but what you can try is to use a heat gun to renew the film. I can’t give you guarantee that will work in your case as I am not sure what caused your problem.
Keeping the heat gun on high heat, move slowly in small circles to heat up the surface of the film without burning it (melting point is about 100 Celsius). If you were to keep the heat gun in exactly the same position for 60 seconds, yes, it will burn. Our goal is to move very slowly so as to really give the film some excessive heat. Heat from a hair dryer would not work. After about 30 seconds, you will see the gloss and clarity start to re-appear in the area exposed to the high heat. Continue to move the heat gun across the bonnet, focusing on small areas at time, until all of the gloss has been restored. In order for this to work, the film has to get VERY hot. Once you have finished heating the product back to life, let it sit for 10 minutes, or pour cold water over it so that it cools down. Do not try to clean, wipe, or dry the film while it is hot as you will cause scratches on the soft surface. Once it has cooled down, simply apply a layer of Clean&Gloss or HyperShine for a film protection, reapplication is recommended every 4-6 months, depends how the car is used, if I garaged etc. Only the Ceramic Polymer Sealant will protect the PPF for about three years.
You can use wax or polish to protect PPF, but wax will melt very soon in hot weather and can trap some debris in, so you may scratch the paint etc. Wax or polish will not stick effectively to PPF any will be washed off in one or two car washes (this apply to Plexus as well). Also a white residue trapped along the edges could be an issue.
Remember the prevention is much easier than a cure. PPF require regular maintenance to keep it in top condition. Good product such as Ceramic Polymer Sealant provides a long lasting, complete paint protection solution for your car by minimising the maintenance of your vehicle and maximizing the value and enjoyment of owning the vehicle are available from ducoscratch.com.au or carcarecoatings.com.au
