Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Cleaning my golf R

I have got to clean my golf R as it's filthy. I have had it washed when it went into to get the sunroof check as it was DOA.

I am not sure what to use to clean the outside with? Ie types of clothes and types of products. I want to keep the paint as good as possible for as long as possible.

Do I use wax? etc if you use a cleaning product with wax in it (if there is such a thing) then will the windscreen get that scum on it.

Also to clean the interior I was going to use a vacuum to get the sand etc out. what should I use for the leather seats, dash plastics etc... I don't want the car smelling like armourall type smell.

    please advise

have you taken a read through any of the existing threads in this forum?

Start with the "Sticky" threads, and if you're still interested, have a look at the threads with stuff like "Best x product" ("Best tyre shine/dressing" etc), and other thread titles of topics which interest YOU (maybe high pressure cleaners, foam lances, leather etc).

If you don't "care enough" to look at this stuff yourself, then just buy this:
Car Care Products Enthusiasts Total Wash Essentials Kit
Then take your car to whatever detailing company you want for a "Paint Protection" of your liking (Nano sealant, ceramic polymer, whatever). If you'd like to do that yourself as well but don't care enough to look in the other threads, then just buy this at the same time as the above:
    Nanolex Premium Paint Sealant Kit

I had looked at a couple and as people get sidetracked about various issues. I thought i'd do a new post asking a simple question and hopefully get a simple answer...

I'll have a look through the stickies and see what i get.

It's not about not caring to look it's finding the time and being lazy....
