Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      What wax do you use?

And do you have a pressure washer?

As the guys have said it does depend on the type of pads you are running. The only way to decrease brake dust is to run ceramic brakes - only a $20K mod I think!

The truth however is that brake dust will jump onto your wheels as soon as you start to use the brakes after washing, the amount depends on the pads. While there is no 'miracle' product that will stop brake dust appearing you can put a high tech sealant on your rims to lessen the build up but mostly to stop the brake dust 'biting' into the rims and make it much easier to clean off. (pressure washer and snow foam is sometimes enough, without having to get wheel cleaners and brushes)

Something like Car Care Products / Nanolex / Exterior / Wheel Sealant / Alloy Rim Sealant Kit is long lasting and will provide ongoing protection, regular waxes will usually just melt and disappear within days/couple of weeks due to the heat and conditions endured by the wheels.

            Hope this helps

If you're putting on the stuff I'm thinking of out of the maroon bottle, after a few stabs on the brakes to build up heat, I think you will find that most of this wax will have dissapeared though melting. The megs range of waxes isn't all that hardy in the first place and to put it in an environment that can see temps around 600 degrees with a big, hard stop, they would just vapourise.

Hi carcareproducts, is your Alloy Rim Sealant Kit any good for Golf R 19" Black Talladega wheels?

Perfect, it will take a bit of applying though because of the detail in the spokes. If you are looking for a quicker option then Car Care Products / Nanolex / Exterior / Paint Sealant / Premium Spray Sealant is great, not as long lasting but a lot easier and quicker to apply.

Just make sure the wheels are perfectly clean and dry first before either application as the preparation can control the durability of the product - to really deep clean your wheels try this: Car Care Products / Wolf's Chemicals / Exterior / Wheel Cleaners / Decon Gel (Brake Duster)

                      Hope this helps.
