Waffle weave cloth - what am I doing wrong ?

So I'm using a wafle weave microfibre cloth to dry my car now and I'm having some issues.

The cloth gets very wet after a while and it starts to just spread water marks over the car, rather than soak up the moisture.

I could be a weak bastard, but when I wring it out some moisture comes out, but it doesn't seem to help. It's like once the cloth fills up with water it's not very useful at drying anymore.

Do I need a second wafle weave cloth to dry the car to a smearless finish ?

Or should I buy a gym membership ?

I have an extra large mint waffle weave and can dry my Tig completely with it.

I use a large one to dry my wheels.

I didn't know you should wring out the waffle weave towels and keep drying???

On a side note I drape the towel across an area of the car and pull it across without applying any pressure for best results.

Also try taking the nozzle off your hose then turn it on about half pressure and let the water run all over the paint work, I find this reduces the amount of water I have to dry off the car. I'm sure this is due to using a good quality sealant such as nanolex.

I always use 2, sometimes 3 waffles weaves when drying my car.

The first one i use to take off the majority of the water, after doing say a panel or a door i quickly follow up with the second one which is dry to remove any remaining water, if this 2nd cloth gets too wet i will then use another dry waffle weave cloth.

The first cloth does get soaked pretty quickly and i do wring it out every now and then to get the majority of the water out.

Not sure if this is the best way but it's what i do.

Best not to wring out your Waffle Weave, it stretches the fibers and reduces the towel's absorbency. Ruined my first waffle weave by wringing it out.

I dry my car using Duragloss Aquawax an Extra Large Mint a Waffle Weave followed by a Mint Super Plush Cloth.

I have problem with mine when its dry for the first wipe or two, but once its damp its awesome. wring it out as there is no way to do the car in one go.

I've had a few people tell me not to wring them out, they may be wrong though. We need the detailing Yodas from CCP to sort this one out.

Yeah, as far as I'm aware, you should never wring out your waffle weave drying towel for the reasons already mentioned. If you can't do the car in one go without feeling the need to wring it out, then get an extra large one, or even buy a 2nd one.

Unlike Prodigy, I don't believe in doubling my work! So I'd avoid using 1 towel first all the time so it gets super soaked and then having to go over the same area with a 2nd drier towel. Just use one towel for the left half and another towel for the right half of the car so that you're dividing the water up!

Make sure that you have your towel folded into a managable size. Since I have extra large ones, I have them folded into 8ths, so there is always plenty of dry surfaces of the towel that I can switch to.

Finally, always do your final rinse before drying with low pressure and no nozzle (i.e. just the "open" hose). Have the hose really close to the car and at a really flat angle and "sheet the water" off the car. That way there is far less water to have to absorb in the first place!

Yeah... I noticed that too! But they're the ones selling us the goods! They can't have our towels lasting for a decade... they need us to be regularly replacing them with newer fresher towels

HAHA was thinking that. or making us all buy 3 each.
Even if it does ruin it, think id rather use the one towel, wring it, and replace it more regularly rather then have 2-3 to deal with.

Hmmm... I wonder if scrunching the towel into a ball and squeezing it instead of wringing it will help prolong it's life???

I would only suggest maybe having two cloths to be honest with you. I use an XL and a L to dry my car. XL usually does it all and just a few lighter spots with the Large usually finishes off!
