Elsewise, get some touch up and some clear, fill the scratch up about 3/4s with the colour touch up, then the rest with the clear, even leave a small mound of clear.

Now, if you're not confident with the next bit, get a detailer to do the whole thing, but you will need to get your hands on some 3000 grit wet and dry, use it WET with a hint of palmolive in the water (adds some lubrication and smells pretty) this will take down the edge on the clear and blend it a bit better with the surrounding clear coat too (depending on how steady your were with your colour application you might need to do a weeny bit of this before clear).

Don't do too much, you will know when it's blended, it won't take much. Then you will need to get on with a machine polish to remove the dullness of the clear-coat from snading, only because it's a helluva lot quicker and easier than by hand.

Now, I AM NOT A DETAILER, I just have an enthusiasm and this is how I repaired many a scratch on my previous cars with rather good success, if you're not confident mate, leave it to the pros

PS, sorry to here about why you're asking, I've got a new Polo GTI and yeah, it's not as expensive as a Golf R by any means but is rarer and I am always paranoid to the extent of checking both sides every time I park in a car park
    very well said by gav..

I would suggest if you are not inclined to do this yourself definitely do take it to a paint correction detailer who will be able to do this for you. Its not a solution or a fix but it will definitely enhance and hide a lot to what is visible now.

The unfortunately thing is if it is to far and the edge is still slightly evident or you are not happy with the result you will require paint. Being the side where you are it would be the quarter, towards the roof and below the doors to blend the entire thing in.

If you are able to do it yourself a Paint Thickness Gauge is always useful, most VW Audi's are between 90-140 micron thick paint. Clear approx 15-35 of that. (Depending make/model of car)

It all sounds well beyond my skills, a simple cut and polish i can handle but no way would i trust myself with sandpaper. I think i'll search for a quality detailer to take a look.

Mate I can truly say "I understand how you feel". My cooper s got key'd many years ago. I copped it real bad though. I had no choice but to claim via insurance and do a re-spray. All up 8.5k in damage.

Buy a gun, store in glove box.

And the gun pops itself out of the sunroof and protects your car when you're not around?

Farken hell Daz, what a kick to the nuts. Hope the pros can get it sorted without too much pain.

Just don't understand peoples motives for this sort of bull****, I find it hard enough to understand why people can't open their doors without banging into your car let alone something like this.
