  • Small specs on front windscreen

    Hi all

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this on their front windscreen. I have only had my GTI for a couple of weeks now but I noticed recently whilst driving that there are small specs that show up on the front windscreen in direct sunlight. I think they are on the inside but not sure. I have tried rubbing with a soft lint free cloth and they don't seem to be coming off.

Anyone had this problem before. I also notice when cleaning the inside of windscreen circular marks, like suction cup marks. They only show up when I breath hot breath onto the glass.

    Thanks

    JP

I had the same issue, go get some windex and clean the inside widows well.. I had some tough areas and used turps on some of those areas and then cleaned it with window cleaner

When Rob was tinting my car the other day... he pointed out that my car (only a few weeks old) wasn't pre delivered properly and it hasn't been cleaned of all wax etc. He showed me the small white "Specks" on the black parts of the windows as an example... sounds similar to what you are describing. He said he's seen a LOT of cars in the last batch of deliveries that are the same... perhaps something to do with the cars on the docks or on the ship.

He said the car needs a wash in a light acid bath or something... not sure, but i'm going to get the dealership to have a look at it, and the residual wax that's been left on the paint (and looks like small scratches)!

        Thanks silvrfox

I guess I will just have to try harder lol.

Will grab some automotive window cleaner tomorrow and post results for those who come across this in future for info.

        Cheers

Your description of the suction cups is exactly what was on my screen .. thought it was outside but after a thorough inside cleaning it is all gone

I haven't noticed wax or anything and this seems to be on inside of window. Will confirm tomorrow. I haven't noticed any white spots on black areas etc. I have washed my car about 4 times since I got it. I am so ridiculously obsessed with cleaning it and babying it. I think the add on tv for VW golf sums it up.

My wife took the GTI for a drive today. I was very nervous. I got in trouble because when she got home I went over the car inside and out to check it was all ok lol.....

Yeah obviously I just need to do the thorough clean inside. Same deal by the sounds of it.

I am the same.. I detailed it after I took delivery.. the paintwork was just horrible, it is now like glass.. but I just got back from a 4 hour run up the coast and it has been raining and it is coated with dirt will bring it back to its right full gleam tomorrow.

As for the missus, I cram the keys in her hand at every opportunity.. she talked me out of the GTI to get the R.. got to appreciate her choice somehow

I've got the suction cup marks too!

I used Stoners Invisible Glass with an Aquatouch Glass Cloth to wipe it down. Voila! Haven't seen it since.

I've got weird specs on my front windscreen down the bottom right corner (from driving perspective) that must be on the inside, since washing the outside hasn't done anything.

I picked up some RainX the other day to add to my water-bottle. Biggest problem is that the directions are measured in ounces and gallons, so I... erm... just guessed an amount.
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

I went to bunning and there is a generic wash called mechanix in 2 litre bottles already made up. put the whole lot in.. see how it goes for $4.50

I tried some fancy automotive window cleaner (apparently they can be used on tints also as they have no ammonia in them) also got a window cleaning cloth. Did the inside and outside. Still appears to be those glittery little specs that show up in the sunlight only. Might try another clean tomorrow.

If we're talking the "rainbow flecks" that you can see only when heading into the dawn or sunset, I was always under the impression that they were from "sand blasting".

It sounds to me like the specks you see when driving toward the sun is unfortunately little pit marks in the screen from normal dust and muck in the air while we are driving along at somewhere near the speed limit.
I think the glass isn't really hard scratchproof glass.
I picked my car up 2nd hand a couple of weeks ago and it was immaculate. Driving home along the Calder Hwy a flock of galahs flew past and I hit one. I now have about 6 scratches along the windscreen from his claws. Only had the car about 3 hours and now the marks are there forever.
That just shows you how soft the glass is if it can be sctratched just hitting a galah.
I guess I was lucky it didn't break the screen.
