Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Run out of OCW - stick with it?

I've run out of OCW so I need to shop. I'm really happy with the results that I get out of it, and love how easy it is to use.

Should I stick with it or are there other products that I should consider?

I'm also open to advice on a good wheel cleaner. I'm currently using Meguiars Hot Wheels and the results are so-so.

    Few options available for wheel cleaners to be honest, take a look here;

Autoglym Acid-free Wheel Cleaner 5 Litre
    Duragloss 822 Wheel Cleaner 1 Galon(acid free)
Autobrite Wheel Cleaner Gel 1 Litre (dilute-able as well)

I would suggest if your having a lot of brake dust problems maybe putting a coating over the wheels to slow down the process of it adhering onto the wheels as well as making cleaning much easier.

Wolf's and Nanolex both offer a Sealant for paint and wheels.

It's seen this before... but it sounds scary...
"While irritating to skin (please WEAR GLOVES) it VERY effectively breaks down Brake Dust on modern vehicles."

I figure, treat the wheel surface so the brake dust and road grim doesn't stick in the first place and therefore require you to use products which will melt your hands! hehe

          Many thanks for the replies.

So with regards to the polish, it seems like there is nothing else that delivers the same results as OCW for the ease of effort?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but that's a wax not a polish as hooba mentioned in his 2nd post.

Though if he meant wax, then 15 mins 3 times a year is probably no better than 2 hours once a year for the nanolex consider the prep work you need to do before waxing/sealing.

Well, there are 3 alternative spray wax products available at CCP, including 2 you can put on between the post-wash-rinse and drying of your car.

Just to close this thread off, I ended up going with Dodo Juice Red Mist.

I've been really happy with the results I've gotten with OCW, however the Red Mist is a winner. Yes it requires a little bit elbow grease to apply, but the results are worth it.

Thank you to all who posted some help in the thread.

Nice to hear a review always from Red Mist.

The idea is to spray very little as it tends to smear->stretch over the paintwork very easily!
