Howdy dubdubs
I spent 4 hours washing, claying then RO'ing just the bonnet of my BMP Bora. Sure, the paint is already pretty tired and doesn't get protected (well, hasn't by me in about 18months of ownership).
Anyway, without photos (didn't get time to take any) I wanted to post what I did and get feedback as to products I am using, methods, time taken, etc.
I started with a wash using Car Care Products / Duragloss / Exterior / Wash Shampoos / Car Wash Concentrate and a MF washmit and used the 2 bucket method.
Didn't bother with drying as I went straight to clay using Car Care Products / Dodo Juice / Exterior / Clay Bars & Kits / Dodo Clay & Born Slippy Duo
Then I grabbed my DAS6 and started using Car Care Products / Festool / Car Accessories / Buffing Pads / Light Cut Pad 6" and Car Care Products / Menzerna / Exterior / Polish / Power Finish OEM PO203S. I did 8 slow passes with fairly heavy pressure.
Then used Car Care Products / Festool / Car Accessories / Buffing Pads / Polishing Pad 6" and Car Care Products / Menzerna / Exterior / Polish / Final Finish OEM Hi Cut 106FF. Again 8 passes.
Then I applied Car Care Products / Menzerna / Exterior / Polish - Cleaner/Wax / Sealing Wax PO60 by hand and let it haze for about 20-25mins then did the finger test, and buffed off.
Sure I get a nice deep(er) black bonnet that looks smooth and glassy and a great finish to touch, but even from a casual glance you can see the paint is crap. We're not talking any failing clear coat but there's just scratches and pock marks and what looks to be overspray or some sort of spray etching.
Did i use the wrong compounds or pads? Not enough passes? Wrong pressure? Or just accept that paint gets tired and not much correction can do?
I know its hard without pics, and I can't make it to Nats, but just wanted feedback.
