  • A couple questions regaurding detailing my BMP golf.

    Hi all,

For quite some time now, i've been washing my car using the 2 bucket method which is 1 bucket rinse water, and 1 bucket with a mixed Duragloss 901 solution. Followed up by a buff with an Edge yellow cutting pad and Menzerna PO106FF. Then a final hand applied coat of Zainos Z2 polish.

Now, i'm thinking of updating my detailing kit a little, and am wanting to go with the DoDo juice blue velvet Pro or Purple haze pro (unsure exactly of the differences), as well as that i'll get a Lime Prime.

Now, as i've never really used waxes before, i'm a little confused as to how to go about it, even after reading the detailing threads.

Basically, will it still be acceptable to use my cut/polish (Menzerna PO106FF) first, THEN apply the DoDo?

Is the DoDo best applied by hand?

Would it benefit if i used the Zanos Z2 following the DoDo?

If i'm to apply another coat of the DoDo, i will need to wash the car again obviously, what would be the best solution to doing so without removing any previous wax?

ANYTHING else i need to consider????

    Help would be GREAT!

    -Drew.

Yep thats fine. However a yellow edge is quite harsh. I would switch to a blue edge with 106FF. You will get much better gloss

Is the DoDo best applied by hand?
Yep. Applying by machine achieves nothing as its not a cleaner wax. Just a protective coating

Would it benefit if i used the Zanos Z2 following the DoDo?
No. Sealants like Z2 need to go down first. You can then put the Dodo over the Z2 if you want. If you are good with the maintenancethen you will be fine with just the wax.

If i'm to apply another coat of the DoDo, i will need to wash the car again obviously, what would be the best solution to doing so without removing any previous wax?
Yep wash it again after 24 hrs and give it another coat. Duragloss 901 wont strip wax so you have nothing to worry about there.

ANYTHING else i need to consider????
If you haven't done it before give the car a clay before you polish it.

    Help would be GREAT!

    Hope that helps mate!

A quick, and brilliant reply! Thanks very much!

As for the Blue velvet pro VS. Purple haze pro, what would be best suited to the BMP colour???

                Either or.

I like purple haze personally, but blue velvet is good too.

You seem like a purple man ....

Drew, what RO have you got mate ?
I'm just about to start looking into getting me one and thought would ask your opinion on what your using etc.

See there a few options regarding pads etc, so any points taken on board, also from the guru's too.

                  Thanks mate, Matt

                    Matt,

To be completely honest with or without experience on an DA RO Machine you will get an amazing result regardless.

I honestly think it comes down to your preparation, the time your willing to put in and your crazy eye. If you have Dan's Crazy Eye you may need to seek help though.

You can easily make your average ride into a show shine, or a show shine into an ultimate shine in few simple steps. Everything takes time! And... patience!

I'm happy to put the time in. I also have BMP R32. Would like to have a nice clean deep shine to bring out the best of the car I can. (also have a car to practise on before attack my own to build up the skills!).
What RO would you recommend and what pads ? see you offer couple of types whats the difference in makes ?.

Used to get my car wash same as Drew uses 901 from Dave at Waxit here in QLD before he left etc. He gave me some great pointers.

Now looks like will be ordering some from you guys and some other items too.

So all info and recommendations taken on board.

                      Thanks, Matt.

                        Matt,

Dave's really knowledgable and a great guy for help! Lucky you had the chance to benefit from it!

Its very hard to say to what you need really without seeing the car and no information unfortunately. You could get away with 2 pads + 2 polishes and follow off with Lime Prime & Purple Haze to Finish off.

Saying that, you have to take in mind you will need to re-apply any wax as mentioned every 2-3 months. If you find this to be time consuming or a pain (i do sometimes haha). I would than suggest to go to a synthetic sealant which will last up to 12 months dependent on which you choose.
