  • Suede seats in Octavia RS

I like the look of the seats in RS but what do you use for maintaining/cleaning them?

Vacuum, that's it. The alcantera was designed to be cleaned by brushing/vacuuming and is by nature stain resistant. The other stuff is good at stopping slipping but is starting to entrap fluff two years on. I would have preferred alcantera in place of it.

Same here, i just vacuum , never had any staining , the mesh inserts have not collected any fluff , might have something to do with clothes worn .

They are certainly a comfortable seat on long trips and stay cool , my liberty leather seats looked good but allowed to much slip and slid and were not as comfy .

Have to admit the superb V6 leather jobs were a very comfortable and held you in well and truly during a recent test drive .

I just purchased a whole lot of car care gear for my RS and even though the seats are to be natural stain resistant, I am going to putting a coating of 303 Fabric Guard (Alot of detailers rave on about the 303 Aerospace Protectant and Fabric Guard). Only a light coat, just enough to help protect them that little bit extra.

Was it done before and are there any downsides to it? I will have a look into 303 Aerospace Protectant and Fabric Guard.

The car in new so nothing has been used on it before. Detailers that I see talking about it have been using it on lambos, porsche, bmws and etc so it must be a quality product! From what i read, you just have to make sure you be careful and not spray too much as it can stiff the fabric - i'll read through the instructions thoroughly before using it either way. Should be getting the stuff this week in the mail and I'll post up how it goes!

The Alcantara brochure i have here says to use lukewarm water, and lemon juice for most stains.

Alcantara have their own cleaners, too. Alcantara®

              Stain Removal:
              Water-soluble stains:
              - Fruit juice, jam, gelatine, syrup, ketchup: lukewarm water; rinse by blotting with clean water.
              - Blood, egg, feces, urine: cold water (avoid warm water, which could coagulate these substances); rinse by blotting with clean water.
              - Liquor, wine, beer, Coca-Cola, tea: lukewarm water; treat any traces of colour with lemon juice, then rinse well.
              - Copying pencil, cocoa, chocolate, custard and chocolate sweets, ice cream, mustard: lukewarm water; rinse by blotting with clean water.
              - Vinegar, hair gel, tomato sauce, coffee sweetened with sugar: lemon juice, then lukewarm water; rinse by blotting with clean water.

              NON-water-soluble stains:
              - Lipstick, foundation, mascara, eye shadow, perfume, shoe polish, oil and grease, grass stains, markers (including permanent markers): blot with ethyl alcohol, then water, and rinse. Grass and marker stains, especially on light-coloured material, must be treated as soon as possible to keep them from drying.
              - Chewing gum and wax: put ice in a plastic bag and set it on the stain; when the substance hardens, chip it away, then treat with ethyl alcohol.

              Stubborn stains:
Try repeating the treatments described several times; even stains which are not water-soluble often require subsequent treatment with water.

              Ordinary Maintenance:
Daily cleaning: dust Alcantara® using a soft brush, a dry cloth, or a vacuum cleaner.

Weekly cleaning: after dusting Alcantara®, clean it with a slightly damp, white cotton cloth; avoid using printed cloth or paper towels which could leave ink marks on the material.

Annual cleaning: if the covering is removable, clean it in the washing machine, following the procedure described in the page "General washing instructions".

If the covering is not removable, you can use specific products, or - if they are not on hand - dust it with a soft cloth or sponge dampened with clean water. Wring it out well and clean all Alcantara® material, taking care not to wet the upholstery too deeply; dampen the cloth in clean water, wipe again, and allow to dry well overnight. Rejuvenate the material by brushing it delicately with a soft-bristled brush.

Thank you, Stuwey for very detailed instructions, exactly what I was looking for. It's good to have a professional motor trimmer in the forum.

Is it right to assume that the same cleaning instructions would apply for cleaning the leather seats?

                  Leather is different altogether.

Depending on what the mark is, a bit of soapy water and a soft cloth usually gets the job done.

If the mark is not moving, then you'll need to get a bit harsh with it. White Spirits is a good place to start as it moves most things, and it won't hurt the leather too much if you're only spot cleaning stains every now and then.

For leather care and conditioning, it depends on how old and what type of leather it is.

Dan Bowden has some good info here: CORRECT LEATHER CARE, SHOW SOME LOVE! | BOWDEN'S OWN

                  Cheers

                    Nanolex Textile and Leather Sealant.

I swear that I saw somewhere that Nanolex Textile and Leather Sealant could be used on the suede seats.

Definitely can, and have used it on a Skoda RS actually as well with good results.

It will work on the seats well due to the combination of fabric, leather and alcantara.

Just the general question in regards of the interior protection.

How often should be the fabric protection applied to the seats?

I have 303 in my VW's and Nanolex in Skoda interior.

303 would only have to be reapplied i would say every 6-12 months as it depends on the wear useag really.

Nanolex on the alcantara maybe every 6-9 months or every 9-12 months. Depends how battered your seats get from people (eg kids running over them etc)
