Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Please Help - any way to adjust the fender 'curvature' on the front?

    hi all

my 08 GTI 2-door's driver side front fender is about 3mm 'proud' of the leading edge of the door. ie, when looking along the length of the car, the fender sticks out approx 3mm.

I'd like to 'push' this panel in a bit, as the door itself doesn't appear to have any adjustment to bring it out at the hinge end.

Could someone please provide me the steps to adjust the fender? ie which bolt/s need to be undone?

p.s. Looking at used and new Golfs, they seem to have the worst door fit compared to similar priced Japanese or Aussie cars!

    thank you

Managed to work out how to adjust the fender on the Golfs, and presumably, on Jettas, etc

There's one Torx screw/bolt near the upper door hinge. Can reach through the gap when with the door wide open. Undo this a little, not completely.

There are also 4 Torx bolts (10mm socket) along the top of the fender inside the engine bay. Undo these a bit as well.

Then you can evenly press/pull on the panel to adjust it in or out of the car!

THere's not much adjustment, perhaps + or - 4mm, but does help.

Then tighten the bolt near the door hinge first.

Followed by the other 4 in the engine bay.
