Sealant/protectant for polished metals?

Hi guys,

I'm just wanting to know what products you guys use to seal/protect polished metal surfaces, so as to not get any rusting/corrosion/oxidation/all sorts of bad s**t happening to them after getting shiny and all. I'm thinking of polishing the centre-caps of my BBS wheels so the sealant/protectant would have to be rated safe at a high temperature.

I have come across Zoop Seal as a suggestion from some Vortexers but it's American - I'm looking for a locally made product.

Ring up some of the local paint companies. They have experts that will speak with you. There is a clear laquer for brass that may be OK. I don't think that you need to worry about the heat.

I would be interested in finding out also, i know they used to factory clear them, but the shine isnt the same as it keeps moisture in causing those white marks we all hate!

Mine are all polished Ray nothing but polish, when done right they stay bright for ages, i do mine every couple of months and they stay looking great! Just a pain to do.

Will stop in soon a see a guy that polishes and chromes metals and find out what he recomends.

Because once you polish them up do you need to remove the waxy/polish to paint a clear on, dulling the finish?

I made a post in eurocca under the General Tech part, and a lot of them say it's not worth the trouble going through all the sealing - it seems to be a complicated and time consuming process! One guy has recommended clearing, and if done correctly you'll have long-lasting results, but it's just too hard to "achieve desired conditions" right before clearing - from what I've heard preparation is a VERY important step and it's easy to stuff it up. Plus, like you said, eventually the white marks come along and I've had issues with cleared polished lips peeling; I don't think I'll be up for applying clearcoats.

Check out the Zoop Seal Instructional Video to see what's involved with using a sealant. It looks great but it just seems there's so much to it! I think I'll just use polishing rouges first and then regularly take care of them with some Mothers Mag and Alu Polish.

The cheap one is a Wattyl spray can, clear gloss for metals, bunnings have it but I dont think it'd be durable enough.
