Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Removing slimline weather shields from GTI

    Hi All

I bought a new GTI today - spec I wanted and at the right price. Only problem is that the dealer has fitted slimline weathershields to the front and rear doors (before I purchased). I am not a big fan of the look of them but could live with them if need be.

I asked the dealer if they could take them off - they were hesitant saying they couldnt guarantee they would come off cleanly and were more than double sided taped on (apparently a silicone is also used).

Has anyone taken off these before where they are dealer fitted? Its the parts that have been stuck to the plastic trim that worry me more than the paint (unless the silicone / glue is stronger enough to etch the clear cote?).

    thanks
Working...
