There are a couple up in Brookvale, I will be getting mine done at Universal Tint & Auto Centre, they have 3M products including the 3M Black which does not contain any metal, good if you have a GPS aerial inside the car or need a good phone reception apparently. They quoted me $330 to tint the Bora and it takes 2-3 hours, lifetime warranty from 3M too. I have no idea if they are any good or not but they are just down the road so convenient. There is a Solartint around there too.

anyone in melbourne know of any good places as well?
There's a heap out there just can't seem to find reviews.
If I could get a tint through a dealership that isn't VW at a decent price, are they always the 'better' people get it done by..? Based on quality, workmanship etc.

From my experience working around dealer tinters, absolutely not. They get their money for doing their job in a short amount of time, as they're constantly rolling new cars in and out to get tinted etc. I'd get it done by a local business
Mrk Detailing, premium automotive detailing. Paint correction/protection specialist. PM me
Also a lot of dealers just send the car off to a local tint specialist anyway and add a healthy commission on for their trouble. So better to go straight to the specialist.
Ended up getting mine done by a local Solartint (Brookvale, franchise I believe), they did an excellent job. Cost was $270 cash for Onyx 35 tint.

I got mine done at Tint-A-Car in Nth Melb in 2008 and i can't fault it at all...great job and service to boot.
At the time $295 for the wagon and they went a lil darker too.
The only benefit whatsoever about getting your tint done through the dealer is that it's on your car when you pick it up...if thats worth the extra $200-$500 than going yourself to your local tint shop, then so be it. Which ever tint place you go to, make sure they give it with a lifetime warranty (which usually translates to how ever long you own the car).
Good luck.

Jayse.

While we are talking about the topic of Tinting, can anyone recommend a good tinting company in Canberra, picked up my GTI last week and want to get it tinted.
Thanks,

I had my 118TSI done by 3M window tinting. Carbon-based tint (not dyed or metallic) so guaranteed not to fade or change colour, with life-time warranty regardless of cause of damage to tint. Not the cheapest though ($400 for me) but looks great and very well done. No squeaks or rattles in the car after application...
They are national, so should be in every capital city
