  • What to clean Ventureshield with?

I'm thinking of getting my car fitted with Ventureshield - those transparent car bras that cling to the vehicle. I currently use Duragloss car wash + paint protection pack approx once every 2-3 weeks.

Can these products still be used on the parts of the car that are shielded? Or do I have to use some other product that is safe for the shield?

I have film on my headlight very much like Ventureshield and found car washes fine. With polish/wax/paint protection as long as it is gentle to the paint work and not too much cut it is okay. Just follow the instructions on the product to see if it is recommended for clear film.

For me personally, I would get it protected as soon as I get it so I don't have to do any polishing. If you seal the ''paintwork'' (that being the ventureshield) with a strong durable sealant such as Duragloss 601 + Duragloss 105, you'll get 6 months of protection from the elements and the environment so you only need to use normal car wash once a week or two. I'd say do it again in 4 or 5 months and you should be fine!

If you want it to look a bit better too, top it up every three or four weeks with aquawax or another quick detailer spray.

Nod. I did this. And since then, have done mini touchup waxes and had a 2nd detail 2 weeks ago.
Ventureshield for me is going to prevent the occasional scratches I get from coming out of my car (the garage walls are really narrow and brick); people opening their car doors and nicking mine; preventing the stone chips when I head to the bush and unsealed roads etc.

Yes as mentioned the Duragloss will seal the Ventureshield nicely and help to protect it against ageing. With this type of polyurethane film it is important to protect it, as it will age, yellow and degrade. Use a synthetic sealant or even something like 303 Aero Protectant regularly and this will slow the process down, do not use abrasive polish, harsh cleaners or carnauba wax - the films do not like these.

I use Meguiars PlastX ($29 from Autobarn) and Plexus to clean and protect the ventureshield on my Pirelli.

PlastX is like a polish and can remove watermarks and scratches from Ventureshield but you will build up a lot of static on the film. I use Plexus to finish off because of it's anti-static properties.

I would use the Duragloss for protection and if its very dirty i would use some VuPlex. Its a better Australian made version of Plexus.

                Thanks triode12.

Dan, do you use the 3-step Duragloss (601 bonding agent, 105 polish, 921 fast clean and shine) for this purpose?
If so, that's the same as what I do now and is great.

I also have the 303 protectant.

Excuse my ignorance but I thought that polishes were abrasive and therefore no good to use on new cars?

And why would carnauba wax be bad for the film?

Duragloss 105 is a chemical polish, not an abrasive polish so is fine. Abrasives are used on every new car by the dealerships (often with BAD results)

Carnauba wax wouldn't be bad for the film, but the synthetic would do a better job as it would last longer.

I've ordered a new Golf R (due Nov-Dec) and I am looking to give the paint the best start in life that I can. To this end, after researching here on VWWC I was considering VentureShield and/or a synthetic paint sealant (I'm both time poor and water conscious, so would prefer to go for longer lasting options) and you've answered my questions as to if they can work together, and which comes first. So thanks!

I've heard from other detailers that new car delivery detailing by a dealership can be bad for the paint, and that I should see if the dealer will let me use my own detailer (either on site at the dealer or take the car to be detailed).

What would the experts here recommend? Obviously the car would need to be cleaned of the transport protection prior to VentureShield being installed, then have the Duragloss applied after the VentureShield, so it would involve a lot of juggling if the VentureShield installer didn't do the Duragloss part...

Can anyone recommend a detailer and/or VentureShield supplier/fitter in the A.C.T. (unless DMS_Dan is doing one of his Canberra road trips when my car is delivered...)

                          Thanks!

Forget the synthetic paint sealant - waste of money. Just stick to the ventureshield product and use Meguires Plast-X and Vueplus.

You can find your local Ventureshield installer here: Invisible Patterns

But I'd recommend Surfacetech at Artarmon. Expensive but very good workmanship.

Sorry dude, don't agree at all.

For one, he's already using the duragloss paint protection, so he doesn't need to buy more.

Second, the paint protection is straight up 6 months protection - so covering ventureshield in it twice a year will mean he could keep the bottles for like 10 gazillion years before needing to buy again.

Thirdly, those sprayers don't offer as much protection, and still cost at least half of what the duragloss is worth - while you'll need to buy again much sooner.
