Washing/Caring for new mk6

[Mk6 GTI]

Hi All,

A general question I know, but as this is my first brand new car, i want to make sure that I maintain it as best I can from the start. What i want to avoid is the swirl marks/scratches in the paint from washing etc if thats even possible.

What other paint damage can be avoided?

What are your product/material/method etc recommendations?

I guess this discussion could be extended to interior (leather etc) care also.

The tips on how to wash the car are alone worth their weight in gold. I was quite surprised when I washed my car for the first time using the two bucket method at just how dirty the water in the second bucket was, even after having hosed the surface dirt from the car.

(cant find link now) some sort of a spray.... Im planing to put something like that

since i am kinda lazy but i want to keep the car looking good. or is there any other place for good paint protection?

I would agree - DMS Dans stuff is all good. I used to have a black car and it was a beyatch to make it look good. All I do now is rinse/wash my cars at a carwash bay , avoiding any sort of contact with a cloth at all until I really want to shine it up and polish it. Waxing is a waste unless you are buying the super-dooper $200 buck stuff, I use polymer sealants and recently the Zaino stuff- it rocks. Check it all out here, you learn heaps:

Sorry to be a bit rude but that's very far from the truth.

Dodo Juice soft and hard paste waxes are an exceptional natural wax that will add fantastic protection and unrivaled shine to a car - the big tubs are only $80 or so and I've had mine a year and a half having gone through only a third of it (and I'm a detailer so I use it often)!

Duragloss Aquawax and all of the quick detailing sprays are also good value for money, as they only required about 10 minutes worth of work to a freshly washed vehicle and provide that extra bit of oomph in regards to shine and protection.

The videos there are all the same methods as Dan's and you'll come away a lot more confident in keeping your car as pristine as it is now

Just wondering if Dan or Mickey or someone else can help with this,

Just been to car care products and bought Dodo Sour wash, Microfiber Mitt and Drying cloth along with 303 protectant.

I am very confused in relation to wax or sealant, have read Dan's brilliant writeup, but was not sure what would be right for mr. Its a CSG new Golf, used 3 to 4 days a week.

I was thinking about Nanolex as then wont have to worry about the car besides washing, is that the right thing or is wax a better alternatie.

Any help would be great.

Nanolex is great if you want a "set and forget" solution.

If you don't mind doing a bit of maintenance every 2 - 4 weeks then a wax will look nicer yet still provide the protection.

If you lime prime (or lime prime lite) your car then on Saturday put a coat of Dodo on, then Sunday put a second coat on, all you would need to do is give it a spray with some Red Mist once a month to boost the protection.
