Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Broke my glovebox - won't close now

not that it was my fault, but the glovebox on the old Bora won't close now.

i am guessing that it might be a broken bit of plastic or some sort of connecting rod that has come off from the glovebox handle. Hoping its an easy fix regardless.

Anyone done this before or know if its easy or hard? i'm hoping its an easy one as i cbf doing much with all the reno work i have on.

UPDATE - Pretty much have this licked now, purely due to this awesomeness for vwvrtex:

    definitely a worthy banana boogie

i will have to be starting this project tomorrow - has nobody ever broken their glovebox or needed to fiddle with it?

Looks like maybe i might need a bit of extra attentiveness and make it a DIY project with pics?

Hi ... Opened the glove box on our Mk4 a while ago and went to shut it and it wouldn't stay shut. The bits which lock each side had sort of disappeared into the lid. Took it to Audi spares in Huntingdale who service it and finished up having fitting a new one at around $200 from memory. I didn't try to hard I must admit but I couldn't see any way of getting it apart to fix the problem. Maybe it's a non serviceable item. Maybe a good 2nd hand one might be the way to go. Best of luck. .... Cheers ..... Geoff
