  • Nanolex Textile Sealant vs Scotchguard

Anyone have any experience with using these two textile sealant products and which one would be the better product to use?

As far as I understand it, Scotchguard is a silicon-based product, is inferior to the Nanolex but much cheaper at around $10-15 a can.

Nanolex is NOT silicon-based and appears to be a much more effective and durable product. Also it does not have the strong solvent-based smell of the Scotchguard.

In terms of durability would the Nanolex be better than the scotchguard?

Nanolex would definitely be the better option. It will cost a fair amount more to begin with, and as I haven't tested it I'm not sure how long it lasts but I can tell you it will do a much better job than the Scotchguard, enough to make it worth it.

Cheers for that... will certainly buy a bottle of the Nanolex from the folks at carcareproducts once my car arrives and give it a shot.

Be sure to ask them how best to use it also, because you'll get much better results when you use it perfectly

          Thread revival.

Anyone been using the Nanolex textile treatment on cloth seats? I haven't had cloth for a while and thinking whether it is worth using this to add a little more protection from moisture etc?

Let is know if it feels like crap to sit on after you treat it.

Will do, need the car first (sorted tomorrow). I've read elsewhere that it dries as if not there so I don't expect any issues.. although I'll obviously do a test patch first.

Why the hell would it feel like crap after you treat it?

Its a transparent liquid that doesn't change any feeling of your fabric or leather. If it did, i am sure it would be readily known that it'd cause issues with fabric.

No offense, just sounds a bit ridiculous thats all.

We have it in the MK6 GTI on the upholstery, on my S3 leather/carpets/floor mats, the passat as well and i even use it on my camera bag and other items.

It does not affect or change the fabric/upholstery/trim whatever you want to call it at all. You cause more harm by pants/jeans with buttons and zippers than anything else to fabric & leather!
                        What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

^ This. I would have been surprised if it had affected the material, particularly being a Nanolex product. Good to hear another positive review - especially knowing how well looked after those two cars are.

I've seen water repellents in action, there was a segment on some show that Richard Hammond did last year, and it was quite amazing what can be achieved. I'm guessing aspects of that technology are now appearing on items like the new Samsung phones as well.

I've received the spray yesterday and will likely apply on the weekend and report my findings then.

I've now (finally) run a test of this and, not surprisingly per fuzion's own summary, it seems to work well with no residue. A slightly more detailed summary with a couple of pics can be found here in the Mk7 area: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...ml#post1060052
