Preparation of the paint surface is 90% of the end result, the final layer/s of sealant and/or wax only make up the last 10%.

There might be more different opinions on what is "best" than there are detailing enthusiasts Different products have their strengths and weaknesses (shine, protection, ease of application, durability, water beading etc etc). Also many people will recommend different products depending on what colour your paint is and whether it is metalflake or not. Might be better to ask someone with a car with the sort of finish you really like what they did to get that particular result.2017 MY18 Golf R 7.5 Wolfsburg wagon (boring white) delivered 21 Sep 2017, 2008 Octavia vRS wagon 2.0 TFSI 6M (bright yellow), 2006 T5 Transporter van 2.5 TDI 6M (gone but not forgotten).

I would say prep is 98% of the end result.

You need to have a swirl free finish so the paint is completely flat. That way all of the light is reflected perfectly. From there you can put on an optically clear product that contains no fillers, Dodo is a great one.

 Whats on it now?

It might help if you gave a hint at your budget & level of committment.

Are you happy to pay $1400 for something like Swissvax Crystal Rock (there are more expensive out there too).

Are you anal like the dude in the UK with the white Astra Nurburgring? That guy is committed (or should be committed)carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic
I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums

My car is the same colour as yours so I hope this helps. For my preparation for DOVW, I cut back using menzerna range of polishes. USed dodo lime prime to prepare for wax. Which was Dodo blue velvet. I was happy with the result.

EDIT- And I used Aqua Wax Detailer (I think?? thats the name) and autoglym show shine for last minute preparation.Last edited by Driven Threads; 23-11-2009, 03:39 PM.
