  • Rainbows, lollipops, dents and scratches...

What a crappy way to start the week. Reversing the car out the garage I scrapped my front right wheeel arch against a piece of wood. Luckily not too much damage but left 3 small dents, and scrapped a spot of paint off around 3mm wide. The scratches I was able to get rid of with maguires scratchX or whatever it's called. But would anyone know the best way to get rid of small dents DIY style? With the spots of paint scrapes, would anyone know where, or if it's even possible to buy paint, or know of ways to fix damages pearl paint?

Thanks! Much appreciated for any help!

I'm interested to hear responses to this too. I discovered last week that some idiot keyed my pearl black Tiguan:

As for the dents, I guess it depends on how big they are. If they are hail size dents then you may have luck with the metal contraction method. YouTube has quite a few video's on paintless dent removal techniques like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0UAU...eature=related
(hint: you can get cans of compressed CO2 from Jaycar)

''My Big Dent dissappear'' hahahahaha that was such comical english

Would this work on smaller dents? Sorry to steal the thread for a second.

I'm not sure. I have a workmate that said he managed to get some smaller hail stone pitting out of his car by leaving it in the sun to get hot, then placing an ice-cube in the centre of the dent to pop them out. Same principle so may work on smaller dents.

I had a dent on the door of my old Bora after some idiot misjudged the front of their car bumper when turning out of the driveway. I used the CO2 trick but it only removed part of the dent. When I took it to a smash repair place they said the metal sheet of the door had actually been stretched so a paintless repair wasn't possible. So presumably (without being an expert at this at all I might add) as long as it's a shallow dent that has not stretched the metal and doesn't have a crease in the sheet metal, your chances of this method working are decent. At a minimum it's probably worth trying, and if it doesn't work then get someone that knows what they're doing to sort it out.

Ah ok, sounds like a harmless test even if it doesn't work. Thanks man, hopefully Anthony got some info out of it too

If you thought your week started bad, last week i reversed into my girlfriends brothers car and broke his headlights, front bar, bonnet and radiator. It also bent a bracket on the ute!

How deep is that mate? Can you feel it easily with your nail? It may be able to be sanded and then buffed to make it black again.

                  Ouch! Yeah, that's nasty

Yeah, it's fairly deep unfortunately. A slight ridge when you run your nail over it. I kind of hoped you'd reply to this post actually I'll be contacting you tomorrow about this to see what magic you can work rather than attempting it myself and stuffing it up.

No worries mate. I'm not that expensive hahaha

It was an 04 corolla. Corolla's and my ute don't mix. I tore another one open when a woman ran a red light and hit me lol

Of all the car’s Dan has to play with its quite ironic that he keeps killing Corolla’s!

As for the dent, I’d be recommending that you leave it to the PDR guys. They know what they are doing and most will only charge $80-100 per panel that they work on.

Dragan @ Dents r us is someone that I can recommend working in the south west Sydney area.
