Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

How do you actually know it's an acid stain?

Shoot us a few pictures of it and hopefully we'll be able to help from there .

If whatever has come in contact with the paint has chemically etched the paint you will find it very hard to remove.

Can you feel any paint missing? Is there a contaminant built up on the paint surface? What colour is the paint?

If there is just a stain you may be able to polish it out but it will need some serious machine paint correction, more than likely by a pro.

no paint missing. and it a black paint. it looks like a big water mark, the same mark when you wash your car and didn't dry it, but it's very light.

i try to avoid the respray if i can mate.

Sounds like it will buff out then. It may need to be wetsanded first though

Definitely a job for the pros mate. First paint thickness readings will need to be taken to see how much paint is left, then the area will need to be sanded back, then the orange peel surrounding the area blended in so it dosnt look weird. After this the sanding marks will need to be buffed out and then the finish refined down to ensure there are no more marks in the paint.
