Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Bird poo...

A bird poop has left a mark on the clearcoat on my paint. What are the best and safest ways to fix it up? Anyone recommend any good detailers in Brisbane who would be able to sort it out?

Mate if its anything like mine i got bad news for u its not coming out if its gone through the clear coat the only fix is a respray.

      Hmm... hope not!

Pretty sure it's just a surface mark on the clearcoat rather than thru it. Someone suggested I contact Driven by Shine...

Not sure how bad it is, but he may tell you it needs sanding (like, 1500grade wetsanding) to very minor-ly scuff up the surface, and then a buff to get the scratches out.

Hope it's not too bad dude

Chris came by today, fixed it up for me... and cleaned the car too, so it looks hawt!

Excellent job, thoroughly recommend him - nice bloke too. The damage was only fairly light fortunately, so a buff off the clearcoat down a bit and it's come up fine.

                      LOL... OK, they are coming.

OK, the bird poo was down the C pillar in a diagonal streak about a foot long. These are all after it was fixed and cleaned:

                      Some other pics:

The polish on the black plastic is my fault on that one, gotta use some WD40 apparently to get it off.

Swallowtail - I'm glad your happy with the work, I just stumbled onto this forum and found this thread on a google search page believe it or not. Any way I'll have to add it to the collection and try to pop in from time to time. I've noticed a few familiar names already.... So hi.

For those that want to know what we did this was the process
The etching on the boot was actually fairly deep in one spot and although no sanding was needed I did end up reaching for the 3M fast cut plus and a fairly hard cutting pad in fact the orange festool pad this still required 3 passes to remove probably 95% then we stepped it back down with menzerna 3.01 and a whitefestool pad then menzerna 85RD and the festool black pad.

I love the pic of the rims just love when the backs are clean and glad you liked the inside of the exhaust tips. Lol

you have a real nice car swallowtail just need to watch the plastics when polishing otherwise it's perfect.

                        Well done

                        chris

aftermarket paint protection can increase the time you have before removing bird poop...still recomend getting it off ASAP or at least within 48 hrs max!
