Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • MK1 GTI Back Seats

Does anybody have a back seat for a mk1 that they would like to sell me, i will get them re-upholstered, so the condition of the foam is all that really matters to me. The clips on my car are attached to the body, i tried seats from an 77 model but there clips are in the seat, thus not fitting. If anyone has, how much do you want for them and what condition are they in, i'm in melbourne. Thanks. James.

Its not a GTI thing that has the clips on the Seat I think they changed in 78 and one from a later car will not fit an early car and vica versa.
There are bugger all genuine Mk1 GTIs in Australia, so chances of anyone having a seat from one are slim.

thanks, ok, looks like i need the rear seats out of a 76 Golf, as i tried the 77, no luck. Or any back seats from another vehicle that will fit with not to much trouble.

Sorry for being slow in the uptake...

Are these the seats you mean? You can have 'em cheap if they'll help. They're from a '76 swallowtail four door.

The pics show the release clip at the back of the seat and the swing arm thing that allows you to tilt the whole seat forward. Like I said I hope this helps.
