New Product: Dodo Juice Supernatural Shampoo

The crazy guys at Dodo have released another brilliant product in the form of Supernatural Shampoo.



As the bottle says; no Superficial characteristics. Just Supernatural Performance.

This shampoo is super concentrated with a dilution rate of 1:1500. This means the 250ml bottle will mix up to 375L of wash shampoo! It is packaged with a handy pump dispenser; simply add one squirt for every three litres of water.

As expected form Dodo it is PH balanced so it won't harm your wax layers. It also contains lime scale inhibitors, sheeting enhancers and anti static-agents to give you the easiest wash, minimising water use and speeding up the time needed to rejuvenate your pride and joy.

Well, with one wash with it under my belt, I'm pretty impressed.

I've used three main products to wash my car since I bought it last year:

1. Meguiars Soft Wash Gel.
2. ArmourAll Car Wash (the blue one, not the green wash & wax).
3. Dodo Juice Supernatural Car Shampoo.

I've detailed my experience with the first two in this post.

And now for the Supernatural review.

It's $40 for a little bottle. Gulp.

I loaded up 9L of lukewarm water in a bucket, and then unlocked the pump on the bottle, and once I primed the pump, put three squirts of the product into the bucket. The pump has quite a short stroke and a narrow bore measurement, so each pump is really not a lot of product - so it should, if used as specified, last quite a while. That's one worry resolved.

It doesn't foam up much (the instructions are to add it to water in a bucket, and then agitate it to get it foaming up). I realise that suds don't actually clean cars though, and I really didn't agitate it madly, so I'm not too concerned. I'll probably try putting 5L of water in the bucket, 3 squirts of product and then run the last 4L into the bucket next time, just to see if it foams up better that way.

Lubricity seems really good though, bordering on excellent. It doesn't feel greasy like when you've put too much liquid in (did that once with the Soft Wash Gel, and ended up sudsing up the whole carport and leaving a slippery surface around the car), but there's a nice easy glide on the mitt as you wash the car. A bonus to it not foaming up much is that you don't get bubbles popping and drying on the car as you work. It was 17ºC when I washed the car today, and the car was in the shade all day, so I didn't have to worry too much about the car drying too quickly, so I managed to get 1/2 the car washed at a time between rinses.

Cleaning power seemed pretty good too. I bought another bucket recently (13L bucket from Bunnings for $4, as much as I'd love a big 20L bucket, $12-$20 isn't justified), and so my light coloured (yellow) wash bucket from the past has been relegated to rinse water duties. The colour of the bucket is important - here's why:



(That photo taken several hours after washing, with all the dirt having settled into the bottom of the buckey - straight after washing, the rinse water looked decidedly murky).

As you can see, there's quite a lot of dirt in the rinse water (gotta love the two-bucket method, imagine dragging all that grit over your car repeatedly...), so the Supernatural Car Shampoo certainly cleans well.

All in all, with only a single wash with it under my belt, I'm pretty happy with it. I gave the car a run over with a clay bar and two coats of Opti-Seal today - I'll try get an idea tomorrow morning of how well water's beading/sheeting off the paint fresh directly after sealing, and will evaluate the same after the next wash, which should give me an idea of how safe it is for sealants/waxes.

Well I bit the bullet and bought the supernatural shampoo as well. It was either this or the Duragloss stuff from CCP for $65, but I opted for this because I use dodo wax as well and it is said to give me better results, and it's the better of the two anyway.

I washed the car today. My first thoughts as I was filling up the bucket were ''this doesn't seem right, 3ml of product...'' and ''i'm skeptical; this isn't going to work very well because I can't feel much soap''. Let me tell you now, I was completely wrong!

Not only did it wash the car better than any other product I've used, but I used far less water as the dirt just came right off with the mitt. I was surprised to see how dirty my bucket got (for three days since a wash) and pleased to know I'll only need 4 litres of water for my next wash

I'd recommend this to anyone who takes care of their car. If you've recently had the car detailed, or detail it yourself then this shampoo will produce many benefits for your paintwork, which far outweighs the seemingly expensive price. For me, 43c a wash is pretty good (that's 93 washes from a bottle).

Mickey, I think you have the numbers confused? 30ml = 45L of wash water?

But good to know you enjoyed using the shampoo, it does work out cheap esp when you are using top of the shelf products.

Very impressed with the supernatural shampoo. As others have stated although at first sight it is a small bottle, you only use one squirt per wash. I have never used another product that glides on so smoothly and that picks up so much dirt!
