mate if you can get a half decent job done for 2.2k your doing pretty well!

most places I talked to were about 4k (around penrith area) and that was with me taking it apart and putting it back together. one of the main issues i found was that most places werent willing to even look at it unless you wanted to include getting it blasted back to metal which takes it up to about 7k.

if you find somewhere decent let me know!

ok, cool i guess ill stick with the bloke then.
there were 3 shops i went to in carlton, (nsw) which offered me between 2k-3k
cheapest being 2k and they will do it within thw week and the other bloke said hell do it within 2 weeks but it will be 2.2-2.5k
ill find the names of the shops, and let you guys know.
i know these shops dont do cheap crap becasue they are high quality european smash repairers and then the other guy is a custom spraypainter for showcars.
hes always got alot of cars there and man do they look good.
he did a integra type r in chameleon paint for 5k!!!!!!

Yea I'd want to see a few finished products for 2.2K befofre I laid down my hard earned. I'm sure it wont be a super fantastic job, but as long as it's pretty damn good [ie a 2-3 footer at least] I reckon 2.2K is good

or just do it yourself for about 1K

It will cost more than that. If you do it yourself materials will cost you about $800-$1000, thats not including the compressor and definatly not including the gun. Sure you can get a crap guna and all the other fittings you need but it will give a bad results.

If you prep the car yourself then you will only be paying the spray painter and rent for the booth.

            2-3k is almost mates rates.

remember how i just sprayed my car not even 2 months ago?? I'm not saying it's perfect, but if I put another coat on [which I've got the paint for] and spent the time detailing it, you wouldn't be able to tell it was even garage job. Perhaps a professional sprayer might, but not most people.

The bloke I'm getting my car repaired with at Mona Vale said to me that he'd respray my car for me (a closed door respray) for 4.5 - 5k. I would assume that if you give him a shell he could do the same for less money (because he'd have to tape off all my windows and bits that aren't meant to be painted which means $$$ in labour).

I'm not sure where penshurst is but if you want to chat to Gary I'll give you his number and I'll let him know you're a mate off the forum and that should help . He's a really, REALLY good panelbeater and sprayer.

Even that is quite exxy there, for a good panelbeater you should be able to get even the door jams painted I got that done on mine!

well painter ive seen the guys jobs and cars they do.
like said my car is basically a shell.
im going to go and sand down everything and prepare it.
might even sandblast it down to pure metal. get even cheaper...... maby
my dad got big sandblasting booth thing at work.
take car there n do it
but doing it by hand isnt as hard, have got experience with polishing and spraying furniture (old trade). would be same for the car i guess. BUT 1. its going to be black!!!!! every little mistake will show incl dents, bubbles and runs
                        2. i got no clue bout paints!!!!
                        3. got no booth and id rather not rent one because i dont want to do it myself to begin with.
this is gonna be a nice car......... i hope.
the one guy that quoted me the $2odd k, showed me some of the nice projects hed done incl a rx7, integra and mercs n various other stuff. even a oldskool superbug. done in full black metallic.
and the cars looked perfect, better than out of factory. but i guess everything is better than factory. they use machines for gods sake!!!!

Yeah man i remember. I havnt seen it so im not going to comment. You have seen the GLi though and the materials for the cost $800 and the gun, condenser and fittings which where prity cheap and broke cost $500. The finish wasnt great and need a fat cut and polish.

If you like the work from that garage then go for it mate but you get what you pay for.
