Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Haha I DIY'ed mine but I came out of it with flaking paint. Didn't bother me though since the car's a bit of a beater. If you want to cause as little damage as possible, best to go to a reputable smash repairs near your place.

if you can be bothered going to liverpool you can get it done at my friends workshop.. but they know what they're doing there so its your call

Crescent Motorsports @ Liverpool - 9600-6229 speak to Joe and tell him Pierre sent you

If you can wait 2 weeks i might be able to do it but will have to charge ya as i will have to borrow one and pay for one myself (need to do mine a bit lol)

and please god, did they use a heat gun? or you will find 3-6 months down the line rust on your guards ...

2 People, a hammer, a heat gun and a dolly.

Clean the inside of the lip, get the other person to hold the heat gun untill the metal heats up. The heat helps the paint to loosen up so it wont crack and the metal will bend easier. Use the dolly on the outside so you wont bend the rest of the guard when you hit the lip with the hammer, try a put a cloth or something over the hammer so you dont damage the paint. It should only take a few light-mid taps to get it flat. Way to easy to pay someone to do it.

My mate was going to pay $50 a corner because they "had the tool for it", i told him i would build him the tool for $50.

this may sound like a stupid question, but do you fold the guards to get less rubbing from bigger rubber on your wheels?.........if so does it make a substancial differance?

                  yes that is correct

it pretty much gives you an extra 20mm width and it also helps with not damaging tyres on the thin edge as its folded back
