  • Corrosive bugs

I just gave my Jetta some TLC with a full wash, cleaner polish and 2 x coats of carnauba (my first time waxing). It now looks ridiculously shiny and I don't want to let it out of the garage!

I've noticed that bug crap is damaging the clearcoat . My wife parks on grass where she works, and every day the car comes home with yellow spots all over it. Maybe they're attracted to clean cars?

Yes that is corrosive. If its waxed then the wax will take the damage and the clear will be fine What wax did you use? its usually not recommended to layer natural wax's within 24hrs

Thanks for the tip Dan. What happens if you re-apply without waiting?

It's Mothers "California Gold" pure carnauba paste wax. A mate of mine gave me the last bit in the tin to give it a go ... and I'm very happy with the result (not that I have anything to compare it to). Now the first layer is on, I'm hoping the next ones will be a bit easier and will keep the damn bugs off my clearcoat.

The wax can go cloudy and it may not cure properly which will lessen your protection. Dont expect it to last for ages though. Paste wax at this price is typically no more that 5% carnauba.
