Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Going out to look!
There's no join there on mine. It's one pipe from the join under the back of the front seats and that's welded into the muffler.

    What build date is yours?

Sorry about the car being a bit dirty but it's wet season up here at moment so it's raining near every day.

Don't forget about the VCDS changes too. I changed my coming and leaving lights to my fog lights instead of the Bi-Xenons also added the needle sweep so the speedo and Tacho do a sweep every time you turn the key.

        Happy Days.

Thanks for the pics. The tips look good.
Where yours has the flange mine just keeps going into the muffler.

A couple of questions you missed if you wouldn't mind?

What's your build date? Mine in Feb 2012.
Did it make any difference to performance apart from reducing the weight? It should have reduced turbo lag if nothing else.

My missus is away in the car ATM. I ordered it Oct 2012 and it arrived between Christmas 2012 and New Years day 2013 so it's got to be a late 2012 build.

As for the performance I changed the exhaust before 2000km so it wasn't really run in and I hadn't really driven it hard enough to notice any difference. The main thing I am trying to improve is DPF life. Many who have bigger exhaust report their DPF last longer and do less regens but it's hard to tell really because those who fit bigger exhausts usually drive a bit harder and that is also know to reduce regens and extend the life of the DPF.

            Happy Days.

Interesting that yours is actually newer than mine althought it's been on the road for about a year more. That's an advantage of ordering a car, you get a 'real' new one.
So the extra exhaust flange is likely a current mod.

How do you tell when the DPF does a regen? I've never noticed anything happening with mine and it's over 4,000km now but I do live in a country town.

I'm no expert on the regens but apparently they do one every 800km regardless if it needs it or not. I've noticed mine sounds different some times and I think that's one of the keys it's doing it. I drive enough that it has never had the light come on. Apparently if it doesn't get to finish it it the light will come on and you should drive at or about 80km/h for X amount of time. It's in the manual. Never happened to me though.

                Happy Days.
