Have no experience with the Yeti fuel system but have installed a fuel flow system in an ultralight aircraft. In the aircraft system it is a small vane that spins as the fuel flows through an orifice combined with some means of producing a pulse for a known volume as it goes through, which is an LED with a photo transistor. Then the "gauge" has software that simply converts these pulses to litres per hour, and if you feed in the cruise speed and amount you put in the tanks it will tell you distance to go, time to go and fuel remaining with an alarm when it gets to your preset low. Just like the Yeti.

It is factory set but has to be calibrated to fine tune it - think you can do this with the Yeti one too. In my plane the flow transducer is installed not far after the electric auxiliary fuel pump which is one of those "rattle" type pulse pumps. This pulsing has an effect on the flow, I suspect that it is the pressure pulses, but anyway it causes it to read about 10% high when the pump is running. This is no real problem since the aux pump is only on during take off and landing.

All this IS going some where, so hang in there. LOL

I believe all the readouts for the fuel usage, range etc, will come from a single transducer so any variation or inaccuracy in that unit will reflect across all readings. In addition because of the way that the work they will all have some degree of inaccuracy, the least of which will be caused rapid changes in flow.

All this if just IMHO and I stand to be corrected by those with far greater knowledge than I have
    Yep.

It can be calibrated. Some guys in the UK have done it. You could search Briskoda forum for the info. You will need VW software and cable.

I want to calibrate my speedo. It's a good 10% out.

    Happy Days.

I'm worried if I calibrate it and the MFD shows me worsening mileage, I might be unhappy so will just keep it as it is but I don't think I'm far off based on the kms and fuel pumped in.

I was told pretty much any colour combination was possible when I ordered - cost $600 and a 4 month wait. I wanted this combo, and asked if there were any already in the country so I didn't have to wait. There were 3 in total - 2 of which had leather interior and sat nav (the former I don't like, the latter I don't need) and the final had rear parking sensors. That was the one I went for, Zagame obviously bought it off the dealer (in Tassie if I remember) and Bob's yer uncle (or late father, in my case). I think they worked the transfer cost into my final price somehow, but I didn't really notice - they seemed pretty keen to sell and I got a great trade in, so I was smiles all round - mainly cos I got my red with black roof combo.

Now if only I could get those Matterhorns ....

Just an update on diesel consumption. Been getting about low to mid sevens from the last 2 tanks of caltex premium diesel with mixed (majority suburban) driving so pretty happy with that.

But I seem to recall reading somewhere that the trip computer is optimistic
            Either way I'm still stoked
            Hey Boon

As mentioned earier, our running is mostly "rural" and the MFD pretty well sits on 6.1lt/100km for most of the time
The results above only happen on the M1

Which is rather comical as our new (6months) Fiat 500 TwinAir Plus sits on exactly the same figure --6.1lt/100km
Slight difference in engine and transmission though - not to mention weight

Fiat is 2 cylinder, petrol, 0.9 liter turbo and car weighs under 1 tonne.
Gearbox is a Dualogic "robotised manual" - has single clutch but otherwise similar to our DSG.
Works just fine but changes are noticeably slower
Has the "paddles" for gear changing which are wild and so much fun
We leave it in "auto" and you can over-ride with the paddles at any time

The Fiat is so much "fun" to drive that the Yeti is not being used much!!

I was considering the fiat too but unfortunately wasn't as practical in size

Yes it is a lot smaller than the Yeti
We had the Bambinos back in the late '70's and then I restored one in mid '80's

The new 500 is about 50% bigger.

So there is plenty of space for 4 average sized adults
Boot is about 1/2 that of the Yeti but big enough for the shopping etc
Doors are a problem as in getting in and out of the rear seats - much better with 4 of them (doors)....LOL

Quite a feat by Fiat to somehow get the nostalgic character of the older Bambino and combine it with all the modern things like traction control, ABS , hill holder plus a bunch of meaninglless letters.

Not to mention going from rear engine rear wheel drive to front engine front wheel drive

BTW Ours is the same as the one in the photo - white with black roof

Sustained a small bump last week. Luckily no major damage as it was a soft hit and just some scratches and a missing centre piece of the rear diffuser (tow bar section). The other guy has offered to repair it and just getting a few quotes now. Am having thoughts of spraying the front and rear bumpers to body colour at the same time which I think would look sweet. What do u guys think?

Calculated fuel consumption over 22,000km to date of mixed city/freeway driving has been slowly falling from about 7.8 to 7.1 L/100km. Assumes the odometer is correct. Planning to recalibrate. Running higher tyre pressures should actually mean I've gone a little further in real km - but have to find a number for design tire circumference or whatever is in the computer at present. Car computer seems about 10% optimistic on consumption. Speedo seems about 5% optimistic compared to TomTom.
