You do know that French cars in the last 10 yrs have been plagued with quality and reliability issues right? Also as much as I previously really liked Renaults in particular, the servicing costs alone are almost double what Skoda would charge mainly due to parts.

I agree that they're a tad over priced but I don't use an overpriced Peugeot that's an over-styled Mitsubishi as an example. I love the Outlander but it's getting old and this attempt to dress it up is crap. The 4007 has got practically bugger-all sales since it was launched and I guarantee it will continue to do so.

And more to the point, the Yeti isn't even on sale yet so I think we'll wait to see the sales figures to see if punters agree.

Sorry Jake, but the Yeti's going to get belted in sales, unless Skoda quickly adjust their pricing downwards. It's in one of the most competitive sectors of the car market today, and the value just isn't there compared to some if it's competitors.

I guarantee it will sell more than the Peugeot 4007. I've actually seen a Yeti on the road and despite living within 5km of Peugeot Australia's headquarters, I've only ever seen 3 on the road (in however long it's been sold here). I'm saying the 4007 is a poor example, I never said anything about the Yeti itself.

I see it that way too. The price has to be right, otherwise there are too many choices for the buyer.

Yeah I do realise its an outlander, but the point about overcharging on the parts still holds. I've been looking in that market for the last year and don't find the Mitsubishis so up to scratch still, they always seem to be the poor Jap cousin. Although Nissans Xtrails and the Dualis seem to be plagued with issues as well. Renault still like to ream people for Nissan parts.

The Yeti I do agree is overpriced, there are no two ways about it, they just got greedy because it sells so well overseas. Then again the Amarok isn't so cheap either but its doing well against Japanese rivals. But I don't know what the real street price of a Yeti is yet, as the only people who have bought them have done so sight unseen so are hardly going to have got a keen price.

People are looking for value for money in everything at the moment. The Yeti will presumably be value for money against Audu, BMW and VW but will it be enough value to entice Toyota, Nissan, Mazda and Subaru buyers into going European? If all Skoda do is pull sales away from VW and Audi Head Office won't exactly be very pleased.

I'd have to plus 2 that. The CX-5 seems to have won over the media already if nothing else and Mazda have a pretty good rep when it comes to pricing things correctly. They make the odd mistake but overall they are fairly accurate with their price points.
I would say that there is more than one car magazine that has already pencilled in the winner of their next annual light weight SUV award.

It's interesting that you should say that Jake. If you look at the Vfacts figures in the other thread in July and August combined Peugeot sold 803 vehicles and Skoda only 480 so as a brand you would have to say that Peugeot are doing almost twice as well in Australia as Skoda.

Agreed, probably not the best example of a competitor when talking to knowledgable car fans but 90% of potential small SUV owners will not be car nuts. They will primarily be young mums, young couples and some of the older females and couples.

Thus audience tends to be price sensitive and want certain things standard like leather for practicality, camera and sensors for safety etc. If a car has these and a good safety rating most if this audience wouldn't know or even care about build quality and drivability.

I'm just highlighting there are many alternatives tar are cheaper and would appear a better value option than the Skoda at this point.

I remember being astounded at the price the CX-7 came out at, it was the MPS 6 in SUV mode and about 10k cheaper than the direct competitors which were the Kluger and the Murano, albeit the Kluger was bigger, but since it arrive both of them extended their ranges to be more competitive and then Mazda matched them by offering the 2WD version.

With the no fuss Sky engines coming, the CX-5 will be very compelling.
