Article also stated the Yeti will be on sale in October.
Given all the talk about them being released at the Melbourne Motor Show in July, I am guessing that is when Skoda will announce the final pricing and specification levels.
Given the lead times UK buyers are reporting, I am guessing the first Yetis ordered in July (either by Dealers or eager early adopters) will then be delivered in October.
So is anyone game to place an order without a test drive ?
At least you can drive another Skoda or VW to test out the engine / transmission combination and get a bit of a feel for it, even if not the full Yeti package.
I've never driven as DSG so I would want to see what that is like. We recently drove a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso but Citroen's EGS semi-auto was a shocker. Whilst I don't expect the DSG to be anything like the Citroen EGS, it did highlight how different the driving experience can be with all these new fangled auto and semi-auto transmissions.
The more expensive model on the cards for Australia is a 4x4 version fitted with the VW Group's familiar 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine producing 103kW/320Nm.
Available with a six-speed manual or dual-clutch auto transmission, the 103TDI is expected to be priced at less than $35,000, undercutting Korean diesel rivals and higher-spec Japanese petrol versions, as well as its twin under the skin, the Volkswagen Tiguan.
I would be very happy with $35k so long as they match the specs for the Sportage Platinum / ix35 Highlander, ie standard equipment including Leather, Sunroof, DSG, rear sensors etc. The price competitiveness will disappear if these are costly options.
Pity the Yeti doesn't do Proximity key and Start/Stop button ignition. That's about the only major feature of the Sportage that the Yeti seems to lack.
The Yeti compact SUV is expected to be the brand's highest-selling car in 2012, with a target of more than 2000 sales.
The Yeti will go on sale in September, which a choice of 1.2-litre petrol front-wheel-drive or 2.0-litre turbo diesel 4x4 models. Pricing is expected to be sharp, with a sub-$28K price point for the petrol and the diesel likely to be less than $35,000. A more powerful petrol 4x4 model, fitted with a twin-charged 1.4-litre engine (118TSI), will likely arrive in 2012.
The end of the article also mentions the return of the Roomster in 2012. I'm not quite sure why Skoda Australia would bother again ?

Lovely that he's writing about them but for God's sake Skoda Australia get a bloody move on! Despite what others on this forum might say, I want these cars here and I want more of them on the roads.
Although I think the author has it wrong when he says the 103TDI AWD Yeti will get a 7spd DSG. Everything I have read overseas says they still only get the 6spd DSG.
I could easily do without the 3G or WIFI capability for an even cheaper price, but regardless it is still a good deal.
It doesn't mention the Yeti specifically (Yeti is not avail in China yet either), but I am assuming it will fit the same as a Tiguan ?
I have bought 2 separate GPS/DVD headunits from Chinavasion in the last 6 months and both were delivered within 5 days (via DHL). One was a gift, but the other sits in my Suzuki Swift and works great.
I know, you get what you pay for (cheap quality to match the cheap price), but so far I've had no problems. YMMV. Cost me less than $600 delivered and installed.
The best thing about these units is that they let you run whatever GPS Nav software you want by just putting your preferred NAV program on the SD card and telling the unit the name of the EXE file to run.
I have run TomTom, iGO8 and iGO Primo all successfully on my unit, using the latest Sensis Whereis and Navteq Maps.
