Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Towbar for MY15 Yeti - worth going to the dealer?

As mentioned on another post, I have received quotes between $1,600 to $1,900 from various Skoda dealerships to supply and fit a towbar and wiring kit. I'm told it is a 4 hour job that could take longer?
My nearest dealership has offered to do it for $1,688 + $45 for a loan car. Said dealer isn't the most competent or trust worthy (like the majority I guess).
Is there an alternative? Should I obtain the genuine parts and do it myself, depending on complexity?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

putting a towbar on my wife's Subaru was really easy... a few screws, swap over the rear bar, plug in the connector and then dremel out the hole in the bumper

I bought a kit like this -> Yeti Wagon | Towbars Australia

It's an okay alternative and pretty much half the price. Still, probably out of my scope of expertise. I'm sure having a factory fitted towbar will assist with resale when the time comes.
