Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Can't agree that it was just gimmicky. When I'm just shopping, pop the conventional boot and it's any easy reach to close the boot again. When I'm taking my bike to races, can open the full hatch to easily load the bike. I might think differently if I ever get the wiring issues I understand some owners experience!

And if you open the whole hatch you can do the lot, I liked the quirkiness but it was never more than a gimmick in reality.Everyone I showed it to was amazed then puzzled as to the why of it. I have hardly ever used the half boot opening, I just never saw the point and it is using it frequently which causes the wiring loom issue I suspect. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Not really, That's the wire harness between the door and side panel which inherited from VW anyway

The way to fix it (replace) properly is to disassemble the whole door that's why the stealer charged 3hours (1.5 hours actual work, 0.5 hours coffee and chatting plus 1 hours margin)

I have been at the end of one of Deutsche Parts deals and will never give them another dollar, in fact if I ever go to the UK I will be visiting the place for a discussion about a complete refund which they refused to give when their badly packed parts were damaged in shipping.
