  • Superb III - towbar

    Hi all,

Lurker of the forums for a while, having owned a superb mkII v6 for the last few years, and now looking to trade it on for the new mk III.

Can't find a lot of detail from my local dealer or from the skoda promotional material, so was hoping someone may know about the towbars that are available on the new wagon?
    1. if I dealer ordered - is it removable, how visible when removed, price, factory fitted or dealer fitted?
    2. are there after market options - how do these compare?

Is this what is fitted, if ordered through dealer, on the australian variant? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DNCYG1MR8Q

    Cheers,
    Moose

I've asked the same question a few times of the Dealer I am buying through. The best answer I got was a page from the accessory brochure.
I wrote about it here: #18
There are some pics with it too.

The video in your link is the factory fitted one that we don't get. There is no handle to pull. The tow bar is a distinct piece that has to be inserted in a holder and locked into place.

The first couple show the bar attached with trailer wiring down or up. last photo is the bar off with the plug inserted to stop dirt getting into grease area.

you cannot see bar or wiring when detached and it tows very well. no noise at all.

@Dec76, may I know how much did you pay for the tow bar, electric kit including the programming?
Is there a key to unlock and detach?

@Bluesup, did you get the mud flap for your car? how much did you pay for it?
I check from superskoda website if send from Euro about $140-150. Note: the mud flap itself front and rear around 28euro the shipping cost expensive 65euro.

        @moosemac.
I think Dec76 from dealer fitted. I could be wrong though.
If you want outside dealer $1085 from euro tow bars (depending on your location). I sent him email to get pictures what is the tow bar look like but never get reply.
You can try ask him and share with us.

Thanks for your replies and the photos.

@bego9 I've been quoted just over $1700 for dealer fitted on a 206 wagon, just waiting for them to confirm what it looks like, but expecting it to be as in dec76's photos

I was quoted $1700 as well. Nothing on the mud flaps or other accessories yet as I'll order them about a month before the car arrives.

@Dec76, that is very cheap for original skoda fit for $1350.

Sorry guys, that was for the parts and not labour sorry, so $1750 fitted sounds right as it takes around 4 hours to fitted including the cuttout in the bumper and having to dismantle the LHS inner boot to place and plug in the module. the good news is that no wires have to be run all the way to the front like the old model and also no wiring adjustments need to be made at fusebox unlike band new model passat..

                  Cheers

                    @Dec76 - can I double check?
If you fit the trailer at the back, when you reverse it, is/are the sensors beeping all the times?
                    Thanks

Hi Bego9. No the sensors disengage and a trailer symbol pops Jb on the Columbus with the front sensors and camera still operational.
All coded to work as it should. It also flashes on the instruments to let you know that the indicators on the trailer are working as per the new euro legislation.

Another question please - are the new cars equipped to deal with trailers running led lights? I got sick of the bulb out warnings on my Octavia, so it was a nuisance having to put resistors on the trailer wiring.

My car arrives in Melbourne in a week and a half so thinking I might hold out to see what becomes available after market.

No mate sorry. Need to run Led box. This make all work proper. Better than resistors too

                            Thanks for all the replies.

Ended up ordering the 206 last week, should arrive in October, so taking my time to decide on the towbar. My options are:
                            1. Dealer fitted - ~$1750
                            2. eurotowbars - $1350 (includes all electrics and recoding)
                            3. etowbars - $1093 (DIY fitting, includes electric kit. would have to get recoding done somewhere)

From what I've been able to find out the towbar is exactly the same, so I'll likely go with eurotowbars as people seem to have a good opinion of their work.
They also said the bumper cutout is done in the factory, and all cars coming in to Australia have the cutout regardless of whether a towbar is fitted or not - can anyone confirm this? For some reason I don't like the idea of someone cutting in to my shiny new car with a hacksaw - silly I know

Anyone aware of any other towbar options that they'd recommend?

                            Cheers,
                            Moose

The towbar cutout was inconsistent across the cars I viewed back in April. One wagon (162) had it but the other (206) did not. The sedan I looked at did.
