I have been Director-ed
An email from Skoda has arrived.
Hailing channels open! All hands on deck!!
Please make welcome the most esteemed Director Customer Experience - VGA*.
Director brings salutations and congratulations!
Well, that’s how the email sounds when I read it in my head.
This wasn’t the email I was expecting - and it seems that life in Orbiting Skoda HQ is upside down compared to ours. I had always placed an Ambassador above a Director.
Running the email through the Universal Translator (the Babel fish in my ear died some time ago) I get the following.
At Skoda we struggle to deliver cars good. Without knowing our customers knees we can’t achieve this.
That first part didn’t sound right so I took a direct look at the email itself. This is harder than it sounds as it’s written in light grey text against a white background. At least it’s on-brand with the Superb paint colour palette. All whites and greys.
At Škoda, we strive to deliver automotive excellence. Without understanding our customers' needs, we can't achieve this.
That’s better! That makes sense.
Director then continues to ask for my response to some questions. There’s a blue underlined link. They got the whole Superb colour palette in the email!
In return for my help he will put me in a draw.
For a fuel card. A random event competition thing. Not really in a draw. What were you thinking?
Luckily I have until the 28th of this month to respond and be drawn. Draw me like one of your French girls.
Here’s hoping the car is delivered before then.
*VGA is, of course, Orbiting Skoda HQ.

Well, as anyone who was playing along at home knows, today was the day for me. A shiney new business grey 206tsi to collect before hitting the road for a short 600km drive to the country.
The car is absolutely everything I wanted. It is an excellent car in every way. One little bonus that I was not expecting though is the return of the removable boot light! I was stoked to seeing the little guy in there.
Also a couple of other quick confirmations:
1). Aus spec MY17's definitely have 10 colours for the ambient lighting
2). There seems to have been a slight re-jigging of some of the menus but I can't put my finger on exactly all the changes.
3). Frameless mirror is there
4). Car comes with 3 keys (with KESSY) - 2 x black and 1 x silver. Also the car has the option for 3 different driver profiles.
5). Comfort close (from the remote) will close the tailgate from the key, also the sunroof and all the windows.
Photos to follow...

Current colour of choice is pink -because a group of friends and I have road tripped out to Broken Hill for the 'Broken Heel Festival' which is a (now annual) festival started on the 21st anniversary of the filming of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. It has been a lot of fun last year and this year and pink seems an appropriate choice for the theme of the event. Upon returning to civilisation tomorrow, I am thinking of settling on the colour sceme of Blue or the violet looking colour for summer, and red for winter. The other half disagrees with my summer choice and is vowing to set 'his'key (when he saw me given the 3 keys he decided one was his and I haven't seen it since...) to activate green lighting. I didn't think I would have much of a use for the key personalisation because we both have pretty much the same driving position, but suddenly it seems to be useful after all...
In other news, I have already overheard other guests staying at this motel commenting as to what a nice looking car it is, and at the service station the cashier asked me if it was a BMW or an Audi. I told him it was a Skoda, and his blank look back told me he was non the wiser. 'Owned by Volkswagen' i informed him. 'Ah.... Its not one of those diesels then is it?'
Well, it looks like some news makes it to the outback then, just not apparently Skodas advertising campaign.

If open only, is it possible to set it to open and close the boot via VCDS or other tool? thanks
How about Traffic Sign Recognition?
I can't say I'm bothered enough by the TSR ability (or lack of it) to hunt down anyone with VCDS to make changes.

Out of interest, why would you bother using the virtual pedal to close the boot? I'd imagine if there was any limitation in reaching the button, it'd be easier to just use the key wouldn't it?MY10 Skoda Octavia RS Wagon TSI Candy White DSG Leather Sunroof MDI Bluetooth Tow Tint
