  • Superb Wagon- Shorter Tailgate struts

    Hi all,

Anyone replaced the factory gas struts for a shorter version, if so can you recommend any replacements?

I ask as our garage door is an old style solid job, which when open has it a few feet below the garage ceiling itself.
    Style like so:

However when you park the superb in the garage, and open the tailgate it can make contact with the garage door when both are open. I just need to knock an inch or two off the skoda opening.

Cheers for any ideas (besides replacing the garage door at this stage )

Hey merkin. Cheap fix would be to tape some foam or polystyrene to the back of the garage door, positioned where the tailgate touches. Make the panel large enough to tolerate a reasonable range of movement, and you'll be right.

I have an Octavia hatch - they open even higher than a Superb wagon. I have the same style of door.

I simply started reversing into the garage.

Rather than shorter struts, you could fit a check strap onto the tailgate - then you can unhook it when you need full height.

Thanks guys, it's a wife with a pram and a new born, she prefers reversing out not in.. Yes i know... who can argue with them....

I like the idea of taping something to the garage door insides. I have an unused yoga matt in mind nice and cushy.
