  • A quick question about iPhone control from a new superb owner

    Last week I picked up a Skoda Superb (second-hand 2011 V6 sedan).
They are yet to send out the manual (apparently it was at a different dealership?) so I've been trying to figure out everything myself. This forum has been great so far.

The one thing I haven't been able to establish is if you can get the skip and previous buttons on the wheel to control music on an iPhone (iPhone 5 running iOS 7). Streaming works well, the phone book works, but skipping doesn't seem to do anything. Am I missing something? Can anyone else confirm if iPhones can be controlled via the system? I've had aftermarket products that could, so I was hoping I was just missing something.

I don't appear to have a MDI port in the car, so bluetooth streaming (or plugging in a 3.5 jack) seem to be my only options. (Although to be honest, I'm not sure where the MDI interface WOULD be IF I had one?)

If it can't be done, I was thinking mounting something like this: Satechi Bluetooth Multi-Media Remote Control for iPhone, iPad & All Bluetooth OS Devices might be my next best option rather than taking the phone out of my pocket and (illegally and dangerously) skipping tracks?

Finally, is there any way to invoke Siri from the columbus system?

    Thanks for any help!

    Regards,
    Jonathan

Re: A quick question about iPhone control from a new superb owner

I dont think you can skip songs through bluetooth on VAG cars but i could be wrong which is a shame since other brands do
    I think only with MDI

Yes you can skip songs when streaming using the buttons on the steering wheel, but I'm sure it's all down the version of the BT module installed. I can definitely do it.

Hmmm ok. Thanks for the replies. Looks like I must have an older one installed then. Did you install your own Jords, or was it factory installed (I note you have a 2010 vehicle, it's older than mine, but a different brand/make obviously).

Looks like I might have to go with the mounting of the little remote module option I outlined in my original posting.

Just out of interest to suburb owners; where would the MDI interface be located if the car had one? I've had a reasonable look over the interior and can't see it anywhere, so it's probably just not installed, however I'd feel like a dill if in 12 months I noticed it was there and just in a tricky to see spot!

I fitted mine myself. Bought from carsystems.pl. Easy enough to do. Paid around 200euro.

I've got a 2013 version and the steering wheel controls skip songs, albums etc. No problems. I also have an iPhone and the steering controls work well. The MDI interface is in the centre console. If you go to the "APP Store" with Apple and type in "Skoda Service" you will receive a free App that contains the owners manuel for the Superb. It's listed in the App under "My Car". It's the complete owners manuel on your iPhone, iPad etc. Not sure about Siri working on the Columbus System.
I don't live too far from you if you want to PM me. Happy to help

I haven't got the MDI but I was under the impression if installed it was in the glove box. The auxiliary jack is in the centre console in mine and the is no phone control through it only playback.
